Def powder.....lol I bought a whole load of coloured tips when i started out...didnt use any other them....
Start as you mean to go on lol ....I would use powder everytime, much easier to rebalance whereby you may need to go over in powder to redo the smile lines, unless you clip off tip and re tip .... |

acrylic nail and coloured gel
much much easier to change the colour - you just buff off the colour (really thin and painted on like polish over the acrylic nail) when you infill, you just buff the colour off, infill clear acrylic and then whatever they want next time not sure if some people realise you can put gel over acrylic - it's so easy!! ![]() It is pretty darned quick to clip off the colour and fit a form and sculpt on a new colour with no buffing at all if the client wants a change! Still coloured gel is another option too ... just not sure about the quicker bit and I hate buffing at any time so prefer to remove the free edge completely and resculpt a new colour, personally. |

I do this ! I use a coloured gel over L&P too as I always end up with a better look around the cutical with gel than with L&P. |

colored acrylic, for sure!! i find that tips are a fast and cheap way of doing nails. my friend and i dont even offer tips to clients..
if the acrylic isnt applied evenly - the acrylic casts a shadow sometimes on the tips.. and the glue breaks down quickly from clients showering/having hands in water, etc. then causing the rest of the nail to start to lift away as well. colored L&P is wayyy better. *in my opinion!!* if you have paitience and are willing to practice, you can do some gorgeous things with colored L&P. fully sculpted L&P has my vote over tips any day. |

Coloured powder or gel for me too, just like the other answers.
For all of the reasons mentioned above, and also because you can make the smile-line suit the hands and use coverage powders. Somehow I suspect it's a lot of faffing about, filing in smilelines, and that you would see the colour through the opaque powder as a shadow iygwim. |

Coloured powders are better for me, though I do use coloured tips on some designs.
Coloured gels are not always the density that you want and you sometimes have to put another layer on (depending on system) bulking out your nails. Coloured powers are much easier to use and you get the smile line you want, the colour that you want and the option to add glitter/decals. |

Also, what if it is on a natural nail and they don't want their nails clipped off? Just another option for technicans You could do the same with regular french by using a thin paint on white and gloss gel. Coloured tips are fast & easy and then apply clear acrylic.. problem is lets say you put black tips on and then they want white next time - you would have to soak off and do them again. Depends on what you are trying to achieve on a long term. For me, I am hoping my customer will come back to me for regular fills once they have been the first time. I do still do nails on clients on a Saturday in my own salon and ALL of my clients have their own natural nails. They may have started out with tips at some point, but regular infills means natural nails on a long term. This is just the way I work Gina xx |

It depends on my client and how often they change their mind and what kind of results they want.
Some like the budget friendly painted french topped with an acetone-resistant UV gloss. In polish, the colours are endless. Some prefer the coloured L&P. While I don't have as many colours, I can mix a bit here and there and I have a TONNE of different glitters that I can add as well. But I definately do not like coloured tips. With those, you have to start fresh every time you want a change. Not so with the other methods (polish, coloured L&P, gel polish..) |
