Question One Nail Falling Off - 08-11-09, 11:16 AM

Hello,

I'm new to this site, so I do apologise if this is the wrong place to post this, or if it has already been answered.

I'm not actually a professional, but I have been having acrylic nails done for about 2 years now. However, I have found that the past three times i've had them done that my nail on my index finger on my right hand literally falls off. As in the whole tip and acrylic lifts off as if i've bought them from a shop and stuck it on myself. I used to live in Sheffield and never had this problem, i'm now in Manchester and just can't seem to get them to work for me! I had my nails done on friday night at 5pm, and today (Sunday) my nail has come clean off. This weekend I've made some cakes and been to a bonfire party so really i've done nothing with them. Any advice on what the problem is would be greatly appreciated. I'm so disappointed with them.

Thanks

Roxie xx

Have you tried another nailtech? It seems like your current one isn't preparing the nail right, otherwise nothing can make them come off clean...

I have tried two different nailtechs so far, the first one was awful, when it was time for a new full set they tried to remove my nail by sliding an unused tip under it, i was nearly sick :-( This new place I went to on friday seemed to be a nice place, and my nails look lovely. Its wierd how it just seems to be one nail as well!

I would think it is less likely to be insufficient prep if you are not having problems with your other nails. It could be that you use this finger for something that you don't use the others for, which is causing your nail to lift. For example I get a lot of lifting on my left thumb nail as I have eczema on my right hand and use this nail to scratch with. Is this nail is damaged in any way, or looks different to the rest?

If the first nailtech damaged your nails (by filing alot on them, or removing the old ones as you described) then untill the healthy nail has grown out, this will be a weaker extension.

Good choice finding a new nailtech, removal should NOT be done with force, and natural nails not filed a lot. Having nails done should never involve pain.

Otherwise the above advise is another thing think about.

Apart from this one nail ...if you are otherwise pleased with your nails and the service you recieved then I would most definately not go looking for another tech.. You should go back to the tech that did them and try to get to the bottom of the problem...a good technician will want to help resolve the problem.

Are you right handed? I also think of the index finger as the 'doing' finger as it seems to do more and take more than any other finger.

Absolutely ... if you are repeatedly loosing one nail enhancement on the same finger then the foundation for the enhancement is getting weaker and weaker and the problem will not get better. Ask your nail technician to go thiner with the product on this nail and keep very short until you get some new strong growth.
