Acrylic nails- when to remove? - 14-05-11, 03:01 PM

Hi there

I've had a browse through some topics here, sorry if this Q is already posted somewhere but I couldn't see it.

I had acrylic nails applied a week ago at a place my cousin recommend. This was my first time having them on.

I asked how long to keep them on for and was told 3-4 weeks. Not knowing any different I set off happy.

Was passing by a salon this morning and saw a deal for a pedi... £10!! Wow I thought I'm havin that. The girl asked me where I got my nails done and proceeded to tell me all the different styles and colours she offers. I said to her I'd come and see her to have new acrylics in a couple of weeks when I soaked the ones I gad on off. She was horrified and told me 2 weeks max to have acrylics on. Confused now as that's two very professional nail technicians telling me different things.

Sorry I waffle so much! Lol xxx

Hi there, with any nail enhancments, you need to have them maintained every two to three weeks, you dont need to have them removed, infact constant removing and re applying will not be good for your nails at all. Did you not get this explained in the aftercare advice? Did they not tell you about infills/rebalances? xx

No infills and rebalances weren't explained to me by the technician who applied the acrylics there wasn't much aftercare advice given. It was all a bit rushed as the salon was busy. Might go back and have a wee chat with them then. Thanks x

Hello

You should have been given aftercare and an appointment offered to re balance, infill your nails.

Just a few pointers for you:
  • Apply cuticle oil daily
  • Do not expose them to cleaning detergents
  • File only, do not clip cut the tips if they are too long as the acrylic will crack
  • infil when needed (when re growth is visible)
  • Always soak them off or have them soaked off professionally
  • Careful not to expose them on sunbeds etc as they can get discoloured
Cannot believe your salon have not told you this information xxx
