How to get pointy ears.. - 21-09-11, 04:51 AM

Hi all
When I'm doing permanent French acrylics and I use the correct ratio I find it hard to get nice pointy ears..
If I have my ratio a little wetter I find it easier to get them pointy and the nail thinner, but I have to work the top part of the smile a little more to get it crisp.
I don't know which way I should go..
Could anyone give me their opinions on which is best and/or how to get pointy ears when using the correct ratio please?
Thanks xx

You go with the correct ratio and learn to use your brush to get those smiles really smiling. Not using the correct ratio will make your whites look grey ... There is no easy way out .. You need to learn how to control that product at the correct mix always.

Look in the tutorials under nail application, "brush control-zone 1 making it smile". My tutorial explains the techniques involved and I hope it helps you ... That is why the tutorial section is here on the site.

Don't know how to find the tutorials? Go to the top of this forum page and it will tell you ... There is a sticky post there how to find the tutorials!

Thanks Gigi.
When I use the correct ratio I seem to then have to put the points on after I have done the smile if you know what I mean. I don't want to do this, I want to be able to do it in one go.
I will read the tutorials again.

I did sit down with your book the other day, your book, my brush and nail trainer and did some practice. I need to do lots more.

I worked at a salon for a few weeks and they used a wet ratio with the white and got pointy ears and worked the product from the inside of the nail.. Which made the nail thinner and look good but I want to do it the right way and not get into bad habits early on.
Thanks for your advice..
Back to the drawing board..

On my creative course the trainer got is to draw 3 points on a tip.
One just below the number behind the tip and 2 dots side my side a lot further down the nail to create an extremely deep smile.
The point of it was that we got use to the brush and knew how to move the acrylic to where we wanted it to be and to point the ears

Take a look here

Also a great tip from me is to work faster ... it really works .. quicker makes it easier beieve it or not.

Note how the angle of Tiffany's brush changes as she gets into those corners, lifts the handle a touch and just delicately uses the point of the brush to establish the sharpest point of the smile.

See how efficiently this technique gets the job done without all that patting and wiping and swiping you see in so many other videos ... efficiency and technique is the key to beautiful crisp clear smiles in record time. Enjoy.

The best advice I can give apart from loads of practice is to use a slightly smaller bead than you think necessary. When I first started I always seemed to think I needed a bigger bead than I did and this always made it hard to get pointy ears , as there is too much product being forced to the corners where you want it thin and crisp.

Thanks Gigi, you've been a big help as always.
The video was great. Tiffany gets those points pointy with the brush which is what I'd love to be able to achieve.

I will be doing some practice to try and improve tomorrow and this weekend.
I really appreciate your tips x

Ahh that's a good thing to consider also.
Thanks.
Your right, when I get to the ears I have to much product up there to make it pointy and flat (?) and thin.
Maybe I need to be aware of that also.
Thanks heaps x
