Rolleyes Decisions, decisions! Best nails to promote self? - 06-04-12, 11:19 AM

Not a problem as such more wanting your valued opinions!

I'm going to France after Easter for a week with 17 others who I haven't seen since I started my nail course. As I'm nearly ready to start my mobile business I'm hoping (don't laugh!) to sneakily use it as a chance to flash my nails and hopefully entice some possible future clients.

Thing is I can't decide what look to go for. I've had enhancements on for a while now, with glitter tips and then full glitter. Am very tempted to file them off to see how my natural nails are doing and go for a gel polish colour.

My Mum will be coming and she's currently sporting a set of acrylic overlays which actually I'm a teeny bit proud of. Can't believe they're my work!

So what do you think? Shall I stick with extensions or go natural? And what finish do you think will be best for attracting clients? A classic, simple french, or colour or glitter tips/full glitter?

Any ideas welcome thanks xxx

I wouldn't like to say as it depends on the group you're going with but I find french always gets more compliments than glitter or block colour on fingers, whereas rockstar gets more attention than block colour on toes. For me I think it's because French is more classic and less scary than glitter on fingers

I'd think about what sort of client you might attract from this group and then aim something at them that might appeal xx

I might be wrong, but I'd personally go for natural nails and the gel polish. You're mum already has enhancements off which shows how brilliant you are at them, than if you have a gel polish it shows what variety of services you can offer.

As said, I think it depends on the type of client you could get from this group. Are they more in to French or colours, nail art or glitter?

Personally I love French on others, but never wear it on myself so tend to look at those with bright block colours and a bit of art.

Do your nails to meet their needs and you could be on to a winner.

Thank you both for your replies and very good points!

The ages range from 20s to 60s so very varied!

Think you are right about natural nails as mums got hers to show so ill put gel polish on mine. Am thinking maybe french then block colour on toes as they will be out on a couple of evenings!

Xx

Still tempted to put a little white glitter on french tip tho...!!

yeah i like your thoughts for a full colour on toes and french on fingers, but am ageeing with emjz to jazz it just a touch and add something to the rings, a classy bit of nail art or even a full rock star nail. the french will show your neat eye for detail and perfection but the ring finger will show you can offer that bit of fun and differnce too for the clients who may want this...

Go for something that the majority of the group would book in for.if you think th majority would book for enhancements go for it and show them how well you can do them,or if you believe they would book in for a simple manicure go natural.you need them to go 'hey your nails look beautiful' so you can have the come back of thank you I done them myself and then get into convo about your business.maybe do one finger different so people might ask why is that finger different to the rest.you need to make your nails the talking point!xx

LOVE yours and emjz's ideas of french and ring finger art. Will def go for this thanks! Love your confidence in me lol not sure I got the fine eye for perfection but will have a go!

Was going to go for simple but classy white flower and diamante but just had a thought maybe with it being french twinning trip I should go all patriotic with a bit of red white and blue along smile line.

What u think? Would it look odd just on ring finger? X

i always wear the colour i am promoting .. when its gelish .. i do a colour of the week and i wear it.. perhaps with a variation on teh ring finger and thumb.. ie a block colour all over,, then say a design on the ring finger with the same colour etc or a colour fade.. ... at xmas i go glitter lol.. that got me noticed so well.. everyone wanted it ... lol i always have extensions on anyway . which helps as i chage my nails nearly everyweek lol.. so i can just file the gelish off without having to keep soaking.. then if i get board of colour i do a white tip and go french..

that actually does get alot of business..i always wear some form of nail art too..

at the end of the day .. "you are your own advertisment"

I recently did a Swishing party and a hen party the following weekend so I did each nail different. One hand I did plain shellac with a bit of nail art on one finger and french on another. The other hand I did rockstar, nail art, Crystal decoration and a Crystal finger.

It has really got me noticed the last few weeks and on the night of the Swishing party it got me a booking with in 5 mins of the lady walking through the door!!!

If I can figure out how to post a pic I will though I'm not guaranteeing it!!!

Thanks lunaberry rrrrrrrr im touched you like my idea, if your going to be adding red and blue to your ring finger, use one of these for your toes too to tie them in, maybe have a practise run with the red white and blue before hand, you could still keep it floral and with a diamante centre but carefully delicately bring in the red and blue to go with the white, its just my personal opinion that with French if bold colours are being used on just one or 2 fingers I think either keep it delicate to match with the soft French feeling... (im imagining your flower pattern) altho big and bold can look stunning too depending on what you are wanting from it... keeping the art white would look lovely but the colours will help them be spotted... Ooooh I think I may be woffling now ... sorry lol. when you've done them you must post a pic... Would love to see them. Hope this helps x

You could do 8 in French & have 1 ring finger as a feature nail with something decorative, Arty & classy.. Peacock designs, feathers, one stroke art & dimantes etc. Thats how I've been doing things lately & it seems to have caught a lot of interest....
