Hello all, I am new to Nail Geek. I have been doing nails on and off for 13 years. However I have become allergic to the acrylic lately. I take Meds for allergies, and I am seeing the doctor again on the 1st of August to begin with allergy shots (which take 5 months to begin to work) I will take the msds with me to show him.... Has anyone had this problem? If so what did you do. Stuff tissue in your nose and wear a mask??? hehhe Sounds disgusting, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Gel nails are becoming popular in the area I live in. Would I have a better chance with gel nails? I would be open to learning how to apply them! Nails are my passion and I would hate to have to give it up!! Much appreciation for any suggestions! Have a wonderful day!!

why do you not close any doors? See the doc to see if he can help, but also look at taking a gel course as well. Another string to your bow, and if you get your allergy soughted, then all the better huh. And it never hurts to look at building on your experience and using different products.
Hope you get is soughted tho. Amy xxx |

Hi, this must be quite worrying for you, especially if you love nails.
Have you gone over how you work with L&P are you possibly overexposing yourself to the product and this has caused your allergic reaction? Or are you creating a lot of dust whilst working and have no extraction system, a mask would help in your breathing zone as well.......I think you need to review all of your nail practices to give your doctor the full picture.........good luck! |

Dear Lisa,
It sounds to me like you have become not allergic but very sensitive to the dust you are creating. Remember all nail products are acrylic based so any dust you created (whether you use gel or not) will cause the same sensitivity. I doubt it is your acrylic liquid only that is affecting your nose. I also suffer from rhinitus. I am sensitive to many things including the smell of strong perfumes, but particularly dust of any kind. It may be you are one of the millions of sufferers of rhinitus and just need to take the proper medication. An over sensitive nasal lining does NOT mean allergy. HTH |

Wow! Thank you so! That bit of information is amazing. I will defenitly look into it the next time I see my Allergist. (Monday) I have had chronic alergies for 30 years now and have never heard of that.
If I may ask you a question geeg, I hope it not too personal, if so I understand. What medicine do or would someone take for Rhinitus. I now take a antihistamine, a steroid inhaler, and I have a back up inhaler which I NEVER need? Justwondering maybe I can bring it up to my physician. Thankx a million Lisa |

All I take is an antihistamine FIRST thing in the morning before I even get out of bed ... this stops the water running out of your nose all day. Don't wait for the symptoms, just take the tablet!! If I wait any longer and my nose gets running, there is then no stopping it!!
Do you notice you are not suffering at night? But as soon as the light hits your eyes and stimulates the nerves in your nose, the mast cells in your nose start over producing and its like a faucet all day. Some people work their way out of it by mid day (this is known as morning rhinitis) and seem to be OK in the afternoon. My eyes are seldom affected, only the nasal lining in my case. But it is horrible and makes you so irritable etc. You just want to tear your face off and throw it away!! It doesn't seem to matter what time of year it is (so I know it is not hay fever). Some times a change in the weather affects me .. having a fan in the room definitely affects me ... even being out in a strong wind. I hope anyway that you are successful in alleviating the problem. x |
