Should I re-train after 5 years not working? - 30-03-06, 11:22 AM

Hi all
I did a nail course approx 5 years ago...never used it but am now keen to get back into it...what would your advice be...
Refresher course or back to basics..?
Also what is the latest and greatest product out there...for example odourless ...less filing...etc...Look forward to hearing from you...
Jenny

Hiya Jenny...who did you train with before...? personally i would do a refresher course...even start from scratch if necessary. As for products...if you do a product search on here for gel, l&p etc you will find lots of opinions on many different brands...most do a sample pack to try. xx

Since it is over 5 years since you did your training and you never gained any practical experience, I would start from scratch with a reputable company. The nail industry has moved on so much in the last 5 years and I am sure starting from scratch would be the best thing in the long run.

Do you have a Creative Academy in your area?

I completely agree. If you'd been working in the industry for a while and then had a break I might say a refresher course but having gained no practicle experience in the first place and with the nail nail industry changing so much in that time I would say start from scratch. It will give you more confidence to go out there and hit the general public (not literally!!)

Yes, definately. Re-do your training or at the very least, take a refresher and re-read all of your books.

This is an industry that moves/changes fast, new stuff/info all the time...
And technique is something you lose if you don't use it.
You risk making a lot of unecessary mistakes over something very small and silly that you've forgotten the technique for OR forgotten to do completely. Why waste time with errors, etc? Time is money

Redo your course. It'll make you a better tech AND boost your confidence and you'll know that you have not forgotten anything.

I would definately recommend some retraining after that time - even if I had been working in the industry all that time I would have made sure I was constantly updating my training. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. xx
