I was filling up my tip box this morning, opened one of my clear Velocity refill boxes and saw a warning about using Speedbond on clear tips for best results and not Gelbond... I've been using Gelbond with my clear tips eversince I started using clear tips and haven't had any problems at all.

Do any of you know why it's advised not to use Gelbond with clear tips?

I think it was something to do with the colour and being advised to use Pink Gelbond as it blends in better.

actually i dont know if this is down to me or not , but last week i used gel bond and clear tips for the first time, after about two days where the gel bond is under the blended tip part it went ( or still is) like frost on a window, if you know what i mean!!!! as if it under the nail and all icy
sorry cant explain it any better , i wonderedif it is because the gelbond is thick and i hadnt pressed it down enough and it left like a mottled icy apperance??????????????

In my suppliers (in Valencia) they sell only clear gelbond, they stock it on the same stand as the Brisa and clear tips with no warnings and no sign to say you get better results with Speedbond.

the warning inside the lid of the tip refill box says...

I'd say it was lack of pressure when you applied the tip Nikki, most adhesives adhere better with firm pressure.

possibly , as its mainly my wrong hand thats done it , not my good hand lol!!!

This warning came in the pack when clear tips first came out.

There was some concern that gel bond would be quite visible under the tip. Since then it has not been an issue, and the clear tips no longer come with the warning. Pink gelbond is nice with clear tips as it helps blend the colour in.

Nik it sounds more like the adhesive is breaking down. Sandi would be right in that the pressure may not have been even enough to create a firm seal and set the adhesive properly. HTH

I've always used Gelbond (clear & pink) with clear tips and have never had a problem......

do a search on this one...Geeg posted some helpful hints about using clear tips (if I were more computer literate, I'd find the thread and paste it here for you, but I haven't mastered that skill quite yet)

We have no problem using gel bond with clear tips and in fact 9 out of my 10 nail technician only students prefer gel bond over speed bond so they have a little more "play time" and less chance for air bubbles if the natural nail surface isn't perfect. They get clear in their kits and we haven't used it all to try out the pink yet. HTH

thanks Jeni ... i don't have any problems working with clear tips, I was more concerned as to why there was a warning on my tip refill box about not using Gelbond with clear tips. I've never had any problems using Gelbond with my clear Velocity tips, thank goodness lol

Looks like I must have got myself some old stock at the last show because my new box still has the warning on it.
I dont tip much but if I do Ive ended up resorting to Gelbond simply because no matter how much I burped my bottle etc, my Speedbond always blocks!

Blocking is not usually the problem we have with speed bond...it's bonding ourselves to our partner that is usually the issue!! Only had that happen once so far with this group and the best part...it was me who got stuck!!!

I tend to go between the both,Speed bond & Gel Bond clear,never got into the Pink Gelbond.
Speed bond for great nail beds - Gel bond if a need to tweek an application. Gives more time [as mentioned] to play, also as its obviously a gel it doesnt tend to run as Speedbond can, Less chance of getting stuck [been there done that..lol..]
