stokes & manicures -
01-06-06, 08:44 PM
your need to be VERY VERY careful. Stoke sufferers often have to take warfarin (rat poison) to thin the blood. If they bleed it can be very profuse and they need instant A&E assistance. Also, their nails grow very quickly. My dad had a stoke 2 summers ago and I do his nails for him. Treat as you would a diabetic client. Get GP permission before treatment and be especially careful. Hope this helps. nicenailsbysam.

it is massage related - but....... if you just give a very gentle massage, its ok, i was told this on my course....my dad has a bad heart, and is on warfarin and i give him pedicures without any problem at all, i just go very easy on the massage, so as not to get the blood circulation going too mad. and get GP clearance too

Maybe these guys can answer questions about Manicures for Stroke patients....
Stroke Information Service The Stroke Association 240 City Road London EC1V 2PR If you would like further information or advice about stroke, or have any questions about The Stroke Association, you can contact the stroke helpline. Stroke helpline 0845 3033 100 (open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) E-mail: info@stroke.org.uk http://www.stroke.org.uk/index.html It depends on the severity of the stroke, the medication they are on and any medical aftercare they are receiving I.E. Physio and so on..... I would get a doctors letter at least to ok any nail service. Saying that a nice gentle manicure should be fine, but and there is always a but, I still would ask for the doctors permission..... JMHO |
