Bio - made with seaweed and edible? -
22-06-06, 05:15 AM
Ok, this is very odd.
Someone said to me that they heard that biogel was made of seaweed, was edible and 100% healthy...... Ok, is it just me, or is this the strangest thing you've ever heard. Eat acrylic? Ok, I'm taking a leap here. I replied to this inquiry that I doubted very much that this was so. I searched for a biogel site. Found it. No such thing is mentioned on the site. Replied to the individual, including the link for the site and a link for the deifinition of what acrylic is. Also, what is with "100% healthy"? Is this something very new and odd that I haven't yet heard of? Or is this some tech's way of trying to get business with false claims? Feel like Dorothy in the wizzard of oz, or Alice in wonderland right now. All very odd. I dont want to poke fun at anyone.. because clearly I don't know it all. I just cant' imagine this being so. |

Sadly this is the sort of misconception and false marketing that is so often seen in our industry...
The term organic confuses so many people. They seem to think it means 'bio-organic' and naturaly produced from flowers or some such.... It's just confusion marketing to try and make a 'brand' unique from another.. |

To build on that:
To be classified as 'organic' it needs to contain a trace amount of carbon. That applies to virtually every kind of system that I know of, however most companies don't go around saying 'Organic monomer' because having a trace amount of carbon in it is no big deal and has no benefit to the user or client. Plus its highly misleading. As far as being made of sea-weed. Why not check the MSDS sheet? I would bet my right butt cheek there isn't any sea-weed in there. Nope, chances are you would find that it is a type of acrylate. Meaning that its a type of acrylic. |

hmmm on the side note, there is something called agar or agarose gel...which has nothing to do with nails but are used in petri dishes to culture bacteria etc. and that is made of seaweed extract....u can also eat agar....most asian cultures have some form of this as their type of "jello" tho it is prepared/processed slightly differently than the ones u use in petri dishes... |
