That's about £5.40 which I believe is the minimum wage here. I don't know what the going rate is for pay in salons, but I agree, it does seem very low. I also agree with the statement that if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys ! River |

This is the way it is!
You want to really earn money then work for yourself. You'll never get rich working for someone else. They take all the risk and do all the investment etc. Of course they are not going to pay more. Work for yourself .... much better. And you're right, they will never get real quality staff but they really don't care either. |

I would also be put off by the way that they actually stated in an interview with a potentially new employee that they are 'unhappy with current staff'. What a way to attract professional people, slag off your current staff! Minimum wage? I wouldn't go there! I'm sure you can do 10 times better hun! Keep going!

that is shocking!!!! minimum wage?!!! i would be annoyed at that too... u have spent good money getting good training, which the employer can see... and yet u are expected to work for that?
people doing the crappest jobs - unskilled jobs - get minimum wage and even more... but u have a skill which can earn u very good money. try and start up on your own.. loas of people on here will help give you advice on pointers and tips! good luck!! |

I work in a salon and on the minimum wage, but I am a junior and have to say I am gratefull for having a job I enjoy it does not feel like it is a job, dont get me wrong I would love more money, but I have to say the tips build my wage packet up (thank God).
Question though have you got to supply your own kit? |

I think if i used to same products they did, i probably would've had to at some stage as i got the impresssion they suffered from stock issues, but nevermind; i went for another interview yesterday and they offered me double! I am so chuffed and the place is so much nicer, much more professional, i just got a good feeling from the minute i walked in the door! Wuh whoo!! I'm so glad now that i made that decision.
