When you have had a new client come to you with onycholysis, pseudomonas, rings of fires and paronychia because some well meaning untrained friend has thought it fun to have a go at doing their nails then you may understand why our attitude seemingly stinks. Because untrained and ignorant people have a habit of bringing ANY industry down and that stinks more than anything I know.

Yes, I totally understand what you guys are saying and agree with you to a certain extent. I just dont agree with the 'name calling' as people who are untrained will take offence to this. And no I would not offer my services to the general public and yes there are people out there who have no intensions of ever getting trained and do offer their services. Probably these people know enough about the nail industry and feel they dont need a qualification or perhaps are to scared with the thought of having to train.
These people need encouragement. |

And they are very much encouraged and helped here on the nail geek site, when they show willing and don't have an arrogant, know it all attitude and are willing to show a bit of respect and a bit of humility in the face f the professionals.

I cannot see anywhere here where anyone has called anyone else stupid and do you not think that what you have put about people not training but thinking they know enough about the industry says it all!!!! |

With respect i feel that your comments on this post are totally un called for and are not backed up in any way, shape or form! We have all been new to this game at some point and I feel that any comments placed to help others have in the main been constructive and are totally meant to help others become better professionals. How constructive have your comments been? Who has been stereotyped or discriminated against? How would you husband feel if he gave advice to somebody who was not trained or professional and they then charged a client for doing a professional job if all they have done is got the info from somebody else and not their own knowledge or expertise! |

It's not a case of making this site a professional only site, that was never part of Sam's plan, it's a valuable learning aid to technicians (both new and old) aswell as offering support and advice to wanna-be techs who are going about things in the right way and getting trained before working on 'clients' without insurance! Quote:
Our attitudes don't stink (as you so nicely put it), we offer help to new technicians and to try and steer them in the right direction where training is concerned, some people listen and learn others are ignorant and don't give a monkeys... the choice is theirs! I'm sure you'll agree that you can't compare an IT professional and a Professional nail technician, we're not dealing with computer programmes here, we're dealing with peoples bodies, we have an effect on their health if we cock things up... something worth thinking about If only a couple of untrained techs have decided to get training after reading this thread then at least some good has come out of it. |

Ooooff but don't we all get hett up! I voted 'stupid' of course as its totally irresponsible not to train. As someone who has struggled with the old pennies to further my training after the FDFC and Brisa courses I relate to those who feel frustrated. However... thats why its frustrating because it takes dedication, hard work and professionalism to succeed in this industry and this is reflected by the fact that we have to pay for it! It weedles out those who are in it just for a quick buck and don't care about looking after clients.
There is enough evidence out there and enough in the news to show us that there are more than enough salons out there that are not providing the service they should, hence the utmost impotance of obtaining the best training there is as far as we can go. This thread isn't about those of us are who are struggling in finding the further pennies to increase our expertise, and though it may take us longer (I've been out of it for over year now so only just coming back!) those of us with good intentions will get there! This thread isn't about us but rather those who are totally ignorant, have no desire to be professional and don't care about the damage they inflict. So those who are feeling a bit sensitive, when you're pursuing a legitimate career, feeling that some comments are derrogatory (sp?) please, please, please its not about you..... its about stupidity........ |

I have read all of the posts regarding this thread and maybe I have taken it the wrong way. To me it came across that anyone who was not a qualified nail tech is considered STUPID and NIEVE even if they were making steps towards a qualification. I took this as a direct hit against myself. I am making steps to become a qualified nail technician, and start my course at the end of this month with EN.

But thats just it... its not about those who are making steps towards a qualification... but about those who are trying to bystep training and setting up shop as it were without any expertise...... we all know that even in the early days we 'practice' on people with a foundation of training that takes years to perfect..... hence my post above yours........ if anyone is nieve and stupid then that would include me wouldn't it and I am most certainly not!! all be it inexperienced...... as I too am aiming for that ultimate goal of a 'qualified' nail technicican.... don't be so sensitive......unless you're not making those all impotant steps......

I can almost guarantee that in a few months you'll be saying the same as us hun, training is the key to a successful business and happy clients. I can also assure you that in a few months you will look back at the work you are doing now and realise exactly what we have been getting at. It happens so often on here. Great to see that we have all made up again

Sorry Keron Jusr re-read all the posts on this thread and I fail to see which bit gives you this impression - all we are trying to say is so much can go wrong without the proper professional information - no body has said that those who are making steps are stupid or nieve. I feel that we need to move on from this as debating this further isnt getting anybody anywhere! |
