nail fungus -
15-05-07, 03:38 PM
Hi,
I wondered if anyone might have any ideas that could help my mum? She's had a nail fungus in her toe & some of her fingers for several years now (it spread). She's incredibly paranoid about it so always hides her hands & says she feels really ugly. She went to a dr in Spain (she was living there at the time) who gave her some tablets to take for 3 months which she did, but unfortunately they didn't work. You're not supposed to take the tablets if you have any heart problems (she has heart problems), so she's reluctant to take them again. She's tried painting shop bought & dr prescribed treatments on them, but nothing works. She's considering having the whole nail beds removed in the hope that that might work. I've heard that the fungus is underneath the nail bed so that removing the bed itself won't make any difference. I think she may clean the fingers/toe too much as she's concerned it looks disgusting if she doesn't & I wonder if that's agitating the situation. She says she's very careful to disinfect the 'tools' she uses on each infected digit. I would be incredibly grateful for any ideas. It's awful not being able to help her & seeing her so self concious... Many thanks!! Sam x |

nail fungus 2 -
15-05-07, 05:08 PM
Hi,
Yes, she's seen 2. They prescribed her with 2 ointments which didn't work unfortunately. One of them mentioned the tablets, but wouldn't recommend them because of her heart. She's also been to a chiropodist who gave her some ointment which also didn't work. Her husband's a dentist & he suggested removing the nail beds, but a dermatologist I know in Italy said it wouldn't work & that he didn't know what to suggest apart from the tablets the Spanish dr gave her. I got her some daktarin or something from America (apparently they're allowed stronger fungus remedies), but that's not working either. I can't believe a fungus can cause so much misery....Help! x |

i agree hun, my hubby had fungal toenail for years, dr even told him it was footballers toenail(bruised from too much sports etc!!) but its deffo fungal and it stinks at times, we've tried all kinds of creams and tablets etc, so after reading carls thread about listerine and doing some research we've been coating his toe in vics vapour rub for a week and yes its starting to clear already the free edge is white again and nail is gradually clearing, think it will take a long time but something finally working hope she gets something sorted soon hun xxx |

Tea Tree oil, Tea Tree oil, and oh yes TEA TREE OIL.
I personally guarantee that if she applies it regularly every day, it WILL clear it all up!!! Or I'll eat my stinky socks!!! Works better than Vicks or other remedies. Vicks DOES work, no doubts there, BUT tea-tree oil is a natural: anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-virucidal etc etc etc. It's AWESOME stuff!! No home should be without it. hths' |

As I've posted before, I had a problem once.
Spent a FORTUNE on prescription... cream and pills NEITHER worked I gave tea-tree oil a try STRAIGHT, no dilutants and TAAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA all cleared up. Now anytime anyone I know has a problem, I tell'em. Next I hear, it's all cleared up.

Ladies,
I really, really cannot thank you enough!!!!! I'm feeling a bit tearful with warm feelings for you all (I'm pregnant so that could be why). My mum has just emailed from her holiday saying that the first thing she's going to do is buy the products you recommended - she's really pleased & excited Thank you sooooo much!!!!!!!!!! I shall keep you updated. Take care Sam
