Update On Monomer And Planes -
28-05-07, 04:15 PM
I have put an update on my original thread Can I or Can I Not, I asked if I can take monomer with me on holiday, but in case you have not gone back to it, I have received e-mail from Air2000 First Choice here is a copy of that mail....
Dear Mrs Maguire, Thank you for contacting First Choice. Is it going to be in your luggage or hand luggage if it is your luggage is should be fine though if it is your hand luggage there are certain rules, I have attached below the link to our section about hand luggage from our website, I hope this is of assistance to you. http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/info/travelinfo/flyingbaggage.html Yours Sincerely, Emma Lanigan Customer Relations Representative I am waiting to here from Monarch airlines. I did give the ingredients of the monomer on a 200ml unopened bottle, I also stated that it would be opened on the return journey but packed well |

I would have thought monomer would come under the section of flammable materials....every monomer bottle has the flammable symol on it....maybe they're not quite aware of what monomer is, I recall reading that monomer has the same shipping class as explosives. 200mls is quite a lot to be taking, almost the equivalent of an 8oz bottle (for us imperial Geeks lol).....
Now I've never done a Brainiac and set any monomer on fire so I don't know if it's comparable to say lighter fluid.....but I wouldn't personally take the risk of taking such a large amount on holiday. |

I posted over a year ago about my nail tech case being opened and checked by security for a Ryanair flight from Stansted to Oslo. Despite the monomer and EzFlow polish remover (large bottle) in the case and the sharp implements they let it onboard with me. I was gobsmacked to be honest. We'd been late and the case had accidently not been checked in but I really thought they would take it away when it was checked and was ready for that with the alledgedly tighter security measures.
Amazingly, off topic I know, my Mum on the same flight forgot she had her knitting in her bag and her bag went through the xray machine with two sets of very long metal knitting needles in there and a small pair of scissors. She only realised once she was about to get off in Oslo. I dont have much faith in airport security!

I did tell them that it would be unopned with seal going but would not have seal on, on the return journey. I know this sounds a bit iffy if I get more airlines to give me answers and majority say no then I will not take any, but I will keep us informed as I get other results

I think the ideal item would be the likes of a "try me" kit from Creative. It's only a small amount in the bottle and would be ideal for any nail breakages whilst on holiday.

If I were you I would take a "try me" set with you. It is ok writing to UK companies asking if you are allowed to take it and even explaining to UK security at the British Airport- WHOLE DIFFERENT story trying to explain to Greek officials/ staff at an airport in Greece with something that smells that strong. I wouldn`t risk taking the open monomer back home, I`d dispose of it in Greece.
Remember the trial of the "plane spotters" where it was not believed that plane spotting was a hobby. Myself and my bags were searched at an Italian Airport and believe me I was terrified and that was over a box of chocs and a bottle of coca cola!!! |

Dont forget thou that monomer travels all over the world regularly! I order mine in from the USA it doesnt come by boat! it comes in the hold of a Plane. it is packaged no differently than if I order in a box of Powders... it's packed in a cardboard box from the distrubutor in the USA, its chucked in a plane with the rest of any freight coming to this side of the word and well u know the rest..... as long as its not INSIDE the cabin (ie hand lug), and the airline knows what they have on board then its not a prob.

Just a thought, parcels with flammable contents don't get chucked in the hold of a passenger plane lol..... they have cargo planes for that. Thats why correct shipped products cost a fair bit of money to send via a responsible and correct agent like UPS or FEDEX. That is, if they (the sender) have labelled it correctly and not just wrote "Gift" on the import information and duty slip, parcels like that are hazardous and anyone doing that is, as my grandson would say: "well naughty".
I would hate to sit on top of a load of little flammable parcels on my way to my fav holiday destination and not know about it.... Hey I would ask for danger money and a free flight lol........Because I don't know how many of my fellow passengers didn't just put a little flammable parcel in their suit case. A, say Boeing 747, has space for 416 passengers and their luggage. Potentially a lot of little bottles of naughty stuff. After 7/7 security is much tighter and I would hate to see little Spaniels jumping all over my luggage wagging their little tails in excitement because they have sniffed out something. Then being escorted to an interview room and then having to explain that I am a Nail Technician and I want to do someones nails and then finding out that I have missed my flight. LOL. So be guided by the airline you booked with, do they allow this? Just my thoughts xxx This is information from the Monarch website regarding luggage: Quote:

We need to remember safety at all times. This is why it sometimes seems that some companies prices seem higher than their supposed competition, it's because of the overheads incurred by importing products legally and safely, remember that the next time you (meaning anyone) consider buying from distributors who aren't legitimate! |

Thank you for your e-mail. I can confirm that you may carry your nail craft kit with you in the hold of the aircraft. However please ensure these items are securely packed. Yours Sincerely Bilkis Miah Monarch Administration |
