I have myself just 'started up'.
I have two other jobs too, albeit both part time. I also have a full house to cater to too. I haven't actually gone out and advertised yet as I can only manage to work in between everything else, ie evenings and weekends for now. I am in no hurry and want to build up steady business, and not have to turn people away dissapointed. What im trying to say is, in answer to your question about also working whilst building up your business, it is possible depending how busy you want to be and how fast you want your business to take off Does that make sense?? As for training, just look around, take advice, sleep on it, then go where your gut tells you... in whatever you choose to do - good luck. |

I presume you have finished uni this term now, so you are back in september. This gives you a good few months to research courses before you decide. I went to uni myself and in the long run you can get a very good job with a degree. Is there any chance of you running both alongside each other? Then you will have the best of both worlds. You have got to remember that it is going to take a while to build up a client base, if you want to work in a salon, a lot of them will require NVQ's which means you have to study for at least 2 years without earning any money. A lot of geeks on here fit in their courses around full time and part time jobs - maybe you can fit it in round uni. It would be hard work but its not for ever. I wish i had started beauty/nails earlier in life, but i do not for a minute regret completing my degree first. Another thing to remember is if you have any student loans and you give up your course, you will need to repay these straight away - same goes for tuition costs - i know some universities you have to pay these back if you give up the uni course. |

I work hard and i always will want to work hard...and i just think this challenge will probably be the most difficult but most rewarding thing i can do. Too many people settle for jobs because they have to have one, rather than at least trying to pursue something that they really want. My parents will always support me whatever they decide and i'm planning on meeting up with them this weekend to talk through things. Thankfully my partner who i live with is without sounding corny, the best, he's being really supportive and is getting excited with me....which is what you want. As well as of course being realistic. Anyway i definitely thnk i've written enough here!! Thanks for your comments it's definitely something i am still thinking a lot about Take care x |

Hiya!! I'm in the same situation as you only have I have the commitment of a house
I'm 26 and I am starting an NVQ Beauty Therapy course in September which will take me 2 years to complete as I still need to work full time whilst I'm studying. I have already done a CND enhancement course which was AMAZING!! So I can do acrylics and help out at my friend's salon on a Saturday doing reception/admin stuff and also I will buff down nails ready for a backfill etc although I have not yet done a full set on a paying client, I practice on myself and also my friends and have not yet had a complaint!! After my course I am going to go mobile at night after work to build up my clients then once I feel ready to take the jump I'll go mobile full time. Good luck with everything, I hope you are as excited as me at the prospect of a brand new career!!!
