Hi, only you know in your heart, what is the right thing for you.

My sister is at Uni, and I know that if she said that she was going to leave her course, I would hope that she would change her mind. How long do you have left to do? When you first went to Uni, you must have had a plan in your mind, see if you can remember what that was.

I think you ought to think about where you will be in 10yrs, if you stay at uni or if you leave, where you might be then, will you be trained in what you really want to do?

You are still young, with the world at your feet, and you may train within the beauty industry, and find its not for you, and if that is the case, what will you have to fall back on.

It will be swings and roundabouts what-ever you do.

Have you spoken to your mum/dad?

Good luck with your future plans, hope they work out.

I have myself just 'started up'.

I have two other jobs too, albeit both part time. I also have a full house to cater to too.

I haven't actually gone out and advertised yet as I can only manage to work in between everything else, ie evenings and weekends for now. I am in no hurry and want to build up steady business, and not have to turn people away dissapointed.

What im trying to say is, in answer to your question about also working whilst building up your business, it is possible depending how busy you want to be and how fast you want your business to take off

Does that make sense??

As for training, just look around, take advice, sleep on it, then go where your gut tells you... in whatever you choose to do - good luck.

I agree with this, have you just finished your 1st or 2nd year at uni?
I presume you have finished uni this term now, so you are back in september. This gives you a good few months to research courses before you decide.
I went to uni myself and in the long run you can get a very good job with a degree. Is there any chance of you running both alongside each other? Then you will have the best of both worlds.
You have got to remember that it is going to take a while to build up a client base, if you want to work in a salon, a lot of them will require NVQ's which means you have to study for at least 2 years without earning any money.
A lot of geeks on here fit in their courses around full time and part time jobs - maybe you can fit it in round uni. It would be hard work but its not for ever.
I wish i had started beauty/nails earlier in life, but i do not for a minute regret completing my degree first.
Another thing to remember is if you have any student loans and you give up your course, you will need to repay these straight away - same goes for tuition costs - i know some universities you have to pay these back if you give up the uni course.

I just think nothing is final, if i leave uni and in a few years time after pursuing the thing i really want, being self employed( and eventually owning my own salon), nothing comes off or it's not for me or i'm not successful then there is nothing to stop me going back to uni or pursuing something else. University is making me miserable at the moment, it's unorganised the course isn't what i wanted and the lecturers (apart from 1 at the beginning of the course who i won't see again) bore me. I have lost my motivation and i now do not believe a degree is the be all and end all.
I work hard and i always will want to work hard...and i just think this challenge will probably be the most difficult but most rewarding thing i can do.
Too many people settle for jobs because they have to have one, rather than at least trying to pursue something that they really want.

My parents will always support me whatever they decide and i'm planning on meeting up with them this weekend to talk through things.
Thankfully my partner who i live with is without sounding corny, the best, he's being really supportive and is getting excited with me....which is what you want. As well as of course being realistic.

Anyway i definitely thnk i've written enough here!!
Thanks for your comments it's definitely something i am still thinking a lot about
Take care x

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I definitely realise it's going to be a lot of hardwork but i am willing to do this and very determined. I think in my mind i've made my decision, it's just telling others that i'm scared of!

I think it's going to be working out a balance...something which i imagine will take time!

Take care x

Hiya!! I'm in the same situation as you only have I have the commitment of a house I'm 26 and I am starting an NVQ Beauty Therapy course in September which will take me 2 years to complete as I still need to work full time whilst I'm studying. I have already done a CND enhancement course which was AMAZING!! So I can do acrylics and help out at my friend's salon on a Saturday doing reception/admin stuff and also I will buff down nails ready for a backfill etc although I have not yet done a full set on a paying client, I practice on myself and also my friends and have not yet had a complaint!! After my course I am going to go mobile at night after work to build up my clients then once I feel ready to take the jump I'll go mobile full time. Good luck with everything, I hope you are as excited as me at the prospect of a brand new career!!!
