college lecture -
09-06-09, 06:08 PM
Hi
I am new to this but reading this thread I felt I had to reply. It just so happens reading all the replies has inspired both my mum and myself to really think about her giving up her teaching job and joining me. I am a new salon owner and just building the busines but I would like my mum to go into the private training sector. She has become very demotivated with the education system |

How wonderful it would be if a college then got hold of her!!! Best way to start is with CND education (08452106060 or have a look at www.sweetsquared.com) .. she couldn't have a better role model of how to do the job well ... and the products won't ever let her down either! BIG decision for her and a BIG change, but very exciting and rewarding. |

Hi would just like to say thankyou for taking the time to reply. My mum is a fully qualified beauty therapist and her role in FE is learning mentor. However is looking at teaching within the a private sector as she highly skilled in beauty therapy. She is trained in all nail enhancements but like you suggested is going to take training in this area to become a master of nail enhancements.

Different companies have different expectations. At CND for instance, to become an education Ambassador certain criteria apply. The person has to be a CND Master technician, have salon experience etc etc and then attend the CND boot camp training. There is quite a lengthy set of interviews and qualifications to undergo first but once chosen it is certainly a rewarding experience as I'm sure you can tell from the reputation the CND ambassadors have. They are all very successful on the teaching side of their business because they are so excellent and because of who they represent. Samantha Sweet is your contact for this at CND www.sweetsquared.com |

I am working so hard to try and get my mobile business up and running. I mean I am up and running but need more clients. I absolutely loathe my day job in a school. So much so that I am quite depressed and stressed. Don't ever work with other people's children, especially teenagers. While i am on that point how is that my 15yr old son is a gentleman and works hard at school yet I am expected to work with some students who quite honestly don't know the meaning of the word respect and probably can't even spell it. Oooops sorry rant over. I do nails after school, evenings and weekends. I wouldn't turn someone away because they would like their nails done on a Sunday as I believe I have to build up my client base.
I want to just pack up the day job and 'go for it' with the nails but I am just so worried that I am not going to earn enough. Although would it give me the kick start to go out there and really get the business in? I want to do further training and think CND is the best option. I have also just bought some lovely attitude nail polishes and always get so excited when I buy some new products. I suppose my question is should I get just do it? Baked beans on toast is a substantial meal if I don't have the money to eat. I am getting married in August and my boyfriend has just found a buyer for his house. Perhaps this is the time to start? |

Well one of my favourite sayings is "keep doing what you are doing, and you will only get what you've got!!" (I hope you don't teach English as the grammar is pretty appalling
I am an advocate of just doing it! Maybe that is because I believe in myself 100%. It simply never occurs to me that I will not succeed in anything I want to do. If I did have doubts, then I just wouldn't do it. If you are good at what you do, have an affinity with people, use the products that will enhance your business and not let you or your clients down, and if you can focus whole heartedly on your success and do things honestly and with integrity .... then why on earth would you not succeed? Life is too short to be miserable in a job that is far from full filling. Can you do good work? If you can then for crumbs sake ... focus full time on it and be happy. |

Great thread, as usual Gigi
Before I got licensed I went through so many techs because I was never happy with the work provided. I went out and bought a drug store acrylic kit and started doing my own. I loved it and got so many compliments on my nails I decided to take the plunge and become licensed. That was 11 years ago and I still love it. I did it only part time from my home for the first 10 years because I loved it as a sideline. Since opening up the supply store last October I am now doing more nails than I did previously and I just love it. Ladies come to me for something different as the techs here are taught only NNO and French Manicure with gel. I love doing funky l&p colors and the nail art and there is huge demand for it here. The art is really new here because the other supply stores in town cater to hairdressers and their nail stock is embarrassingly stingy. The two stores that carry Brisa and LCN don't carry any l&p products because it isn't taught here. So I get to spend my time teaching l&p, nail art and more advanced gel technique as well as doing some really fun nails. Who could ask for more? LIFE IS GOOD! I love educating people about l&p and gel - it makes me feel really, really good to impart my knowledge to others. I tell them all about this site and how much I have learned in a few short months, hoping they will all join in and really shake up the industry here. Its not easy to make the committment to start your own business - but the risk is so low compared to the rewards! If you are passionate you will succeed - I really believe that. When I started out I made the mistake of using a cheaper, less quality product and it showed as my clients nails always broke - so I switched to a more quality product and haven't looked back! |
