Evening all....I have a little problemo..
(just got to work out how to explain it properly! lol)

First....I used natural tips with a well on my aunty....a week later...one has broken....its the whole part of the tip thats come off....the surface of the product is sort of jagged ( as if the tip has been torn off taking little bits of product from the nail plate with it).

Second....I did my assessment on my cousin...so a week ago today...one hand that had white tips on I infilled....today a week later...no lifting whatsoeva (i know its only a week...but im over the moon! lol)....erm thats not the problem but thought id share my delight

Anyway anyway...the other hand had 3 natural tips on, one white tip, and one glass tip.....since then....2 nails have broken...one was the glass tip with a well and the other was a natural tip wih a well....they have broke off in the same way as i described above with my aunty (like the tip has been torn off). (although...no nail plate damage as far as I can see)

So in a nutshell all the 3 that have broken have been on tips that I have had to blend in....I dont think this is any coincidence and I suspect I havent blended these tips in correctly in some way....can somebody please enlighten me as to what I did wrong and how I can avoid making the same mistake again?

Sorry for the waffle I just wanted to explain it as best I can!

when you apply a full well tip to a nail and blend it in, it is still covering the nailplate,
products adhere to the nail plate very well, so the more nail plate that is exposed for product to be applied to it the stronger the nail,
so if these clients have smallish nail plates and you have applied a full well tip to these nails there there is considerably much less nail plate for product bond
this is why sculpting and tailoring a tip so that there is only millimeters left of tip on to the nail plate will result in a stronger nail,
also are the tips too long for the client and is your stress area adequate??

you know it could just be them...to break off like you have explained means they were banged in some way.....they didn't just wake up one day and they had come off...ask them how it happend...


Please try not to think that every broken nail is down to something you did...this wont help your confidence...they were not broken when they left you...

You could maybe try and build the stress area more if you feel they are lacking in strength....i doubt that its anything to do with the tips as they are just a ledge for your product to sit on...the strength is in your product.

Also .. length, nails that are too long for the wearer are more likely to get caught and bashed, so maybe reducing the length a bit help might.

Secondly, I think you have it right you maybe haven't blended the tips enough, this will mean your overlay may have also have been thinner at the apex, to compensate for the thickness of the tip,
Did you blend it completely flush ? if you did I'm leaning towards an air pocket under the tip instead, what tips are you using ?

Can you talk us through your tip blending stage hunny, we can maybe pick up on something missing or incorrect etc...

It could also be the wrong size/type of tip for their nail type. If the tips isnt fitted/sized properly then knocking them can cause breakages aswell. Not saying was or wasnt just throwing another idea in there.

see I was wondering if I had actually blended it too much...as sometimes when I blend...I go to far and end up starting to get a little hole on the side of the smile line. (cant remember if that happened when I was blending these particularly nails)

Both my aunty and cousin have really nice sized plates...not too small not too big and I always cut some of the well off, thin it down a bit, then stick it on so I dont think its covering too much plate.

As for the length...my aunty (with one breakage) had hers quite short, my cousin (with 2 breaks) she does have hers longish.

Im not sure about the stress area...I still cant work out exactly where it is supposed to be....I thought it was supposed to be above but below smile line a bit....?

press on the end of the natural nail before enhancing, and the bit that goes white is the bit that needs to be applied thicker i e the stress area,

I think it was Ruth that made this one up...."press for stress"....this means that when you press down on the free edge of the nail...the bit of the nail that goes white is the stress area...thats where it will crack under pressure first.

lol...ive only just started doing sets on real peoples so I just know any probs are my fault
i asked them how they did it...now I dont think they would lie about it they know im practising and told them there will more than likely be certain problems (usually lifting! lol) they both said they came off easily..when picking something up they pinged off. (I know nails dont just ping off but they can get tiny cracks in and weaken...leading to a possible ping I would think)?

I just feel its not a coincidence..same tips...same kind of break.

No im sure im not underblending....i size it up....then trim about half of the well off....then go over the remaining well with my file to thin it out a bit...then stick it on.
Then I blend it in...Id say im probably a perfectionist...I try hard to get every stage perfect (prob why the whole thing takes me so flippin long! lol) so I keep blending til I cant see any sign of the well...and like I said...sometimes I go to far cos ill get a lil hole in the corner!

2 of the breaks were the leisure tip and the other was the glass leisure tip...you could be right about the air pocket....I thought I had mastered bubble problems on my trainer but since doing it on real hands I have found it more difficult....I dont see air pockets when I apply the tips BUT after its stuck on to the nail...the natural free edge under the tip sort of looks a bit untidy/uneven ( I can never work out if it is just the free edge showing through a bit funny or if there are maybe the odd little air pocket...but this only seems to be along the free edge of the natural nail that buts up to the tip) im very careful to shape it nicely and evenly tho cos I know it shows through.

God im really waffling sorry...just tell me to shut up...my life story might start coming soon lmao

Yes good point...I have been extra careful on sizing lately as I noticed a couple of tips id done were slightly too small....I read someones tip on here which was a great help (but unfortunately cant remember who said it now)..but they said to put one side of the tip right into the groove on one side....and then see if it reaches the other side....so thats what i am now doing...as opposed to placing it on top and pressing.

hey that sounds like a good trick...ill put a tip on myself tomorrow and try that!
