Brisa repair using a tip as a form - 22-11-08, 09:00 PM

A portion of my nail at the free edge went missing yesterday I and was stressing on how to fix it. I have a difficult enough time putting a form on someone else using BOTH hands, let alone putting a form on me using ONE hand...

What to do...what to do... It finally dawned on me...a tip! As 'they' say (I've never figured out who 'they' are...), necessity is the mother of invention (or something like that).

The break was on my left index finger (I have NNO's) and it looked like a chunk was taken out of the corner and into the sidewall. I did my normal prep, filed down the gel flush to the natural nail at the break. I used scrub fresh, liquid bond, then placed a tip UNDER my free edge making sure it fit flush under my natual nail. I placed gel onto the tip where the nail was missing, feathering it onto the rest of the nail. I then cured for two mins., removed the tip as you would a form, the proceeded to finish the rest of the nail. I must say, it worked like a charm and I am pleased with the results.

I don't know if something like this has been posted...I did a search and didn't find anything.

I've gotten so much from so many on this website, I just wanted to share something I thought may help someone else out in a pinch.

I'm a bit confused. Why didn't the gel stick to the tip as it would normally when you cure it? How did you get it off? xx

It did stick a little bit but I pinched the tip and pulled down. The tip came away fairly easily. I'm not sure if using Solar Oil would have helped or if the SO would mix WITH the gel and created a bigger problem.

I think what helped was that only a small portion of the free edge was missing. I don't think this would have worked if trying to extend the whole nail.

The gel will only stick to the tip if it has been buffed / shine removed. When it is still shiny it isn't really bondable. At least that's what I think it is.

Sound like a good fix to your problem. Will need to keep it in mind as I hate using forms too. i think im gona buy some of the reusable metal ones to see how i get on with them ... xx

I'd be interested in those reusable ones, too! They look much easier than the paper ones when doing your own nails.
