Sorry if this is a totally stupid question but I've been asked to do a set of clear acrylics- in training I did clear with tip and overlay and learnt to sculpt with pink and white.

I have sculpted using opaque powders when the client wanted a polish on top and had no desire to remove the polish and have p+w underneath so I know it can be done, I'm just wondering about the results if I did it with clear and then just clear polish??

Would you take all the free edge of the natural nail and then sculpt as usual- I presume this is the obvious procedure but i'm just wondering what it would look like as the nail grows out.

I often sculpt in clear on myself, so easy, then either decorate with splarkle stones, crushed shells etc, or often so that I can have a really nice polish finish.
Yes you are right to file free edge down to minimal. When sculpted they are better filed though the grit grades and buffed to a high shine, no topcoat needed.

A set of nails sculpted in clear would look very unnatural. Like glass nails.

The only time I sculpt with clear is when I am going to use a glitter powder or suchlike on top of it, so that you can see the effect from behind the nail as well.

Surely you client asking for this means she wants a natural looking set of nails, some people say clear meaning natural. You could use a softer white for the free edge. Or do a search on here there are plenty good powder mixes that you can make up to sculpt a good natural looking free edge colour. HTH

Yeh I do these on myself just as a base. Then I can put whatever on top, whether it be coloured acrylic, or just polish, and the colour/design is visible underneath. Also saves time as you only really need an infill, rather than a rebalance.

I advertise them in the salon as 'Crystal' sculpts, and many of my ladies who only have polish wear them.
