Redface Massive Lifting - 03-02-09, 06:17 PM

Hi...
I'm doing the Acrylics course but I have been having some problems...
It seems that for some reason lifting is occurring almost immediately - I have been following the nail plate prep carefully - pushing in cuticle and pterygium well, using antiseptic, removing shine, dehydrating nail and finally applying a molecule thin layer of primer the way I have been told. and when i'm applying acrylic i'm careful so as not to touch the nail groove.
What can I be doing wrong? I'm using OPI if it helps.

Also when I did the nail biter technique, the nails came off after two days and when I asked my teacher why, she told me that I should roughen up the nail bed more - so I did and she told me that they shouldn't come off. but they did after two days again.

What is happening?
Thanks

It's quite possible that you have not been pressing the product down when you apply it.
Push & press L&P onto the nail plate. Particularly around the zone 3 area, being careful not to touch the skin, also ensure that you keep the product nice and thin towards the eponychium in zone 3.
If the product is too thick it will lift, also check your mix ratio, that will also cause lifting if it's not right, but not pressing the product down to the nail plate in this area can cause lifting as soon as you start your finishing file routine.

I agree with Bev totally - when I was learning I put the product too thick around the cuticle area and it lifted completely. Please, whatever you do, DO NOT rough up the nail bed. Using a 240 grit buffer and taking off the shine is all you have to do. Taking anymore will only lead to excessive thinning of the nail bed. Damage, damage, damage!

As for the nail biter, this is tough no matter what! OPI is a good product - no worries there. It could be your nail biter has too little nail for the product to stick to. There are some great tutorials on this site specifically about nail biting. Do a search and have a look!

When you remove the cuticle are you doing this dry or are you using a product? Try doing it dry and see how you find it. I recently swapped over to OPI and I have no lifting at all now and am finding it so easy to use.

Are you learning at college or direct with OPI?
