Sad Need URGENT help - client with pain - 04-04-09, 04:46 PM

Hello fellow geeks!

To solve this one you might need some background history. My client has been having gel enhancements for a long time before she came to me without any problem. So I started using Brisa gel on her but after the second infill or so she called me up and had severe pain in her nailbeds. I figured this was because of me and some stupid experiment I did with the finishing gloss which may have led to gel not curing properly.

I decided to take the gel off and since she was really scared that this would happen again I changed her over to the backscratchers extreme-system. She never had any problems with the extreme-system painwise but since it's not as flexible as gel it didn't really suit her - she kept breaking them.

After six months of nails breaking we decided to give gel a go again so about one month ago I made a set of gels which held up perfectly. Yesterday she had her first infill. We only used clear gel. I was very careful not to make to thick a layer and cured the gel in the appropriate lamp. Careful ith the prep and no exessive filing. The result was as always beautiful.

But now she just called me and said she had incredible pain in index and middle-fingers (it's so bad she cant sleep).

Questions are:
1. Could this be due to overexposure? She never had any problems before she came to me (which sucks)...
2. Should I take off the whole set or should I just redo the ones that hurt (a bit of a gamble)?

The most irritating thing is that I can't change her over to acrylic since she just can't bear the smell. And I don't want to go back to extreme since I'm tired of the constant nailbreaking...

PLEASE HELP FAST

What are you using for tips on her and what kind of nail bed does she have, flat or arched? If you try to put arched tips on a flat nail bed it will cause some pain/discomfort. Only thing that comes to my mind but can't imagine that it would cause her not to be able to sleep?

Not sure what you should do. But I read that the Gel can shrunk and cause it to pull the natural nail from the nail bed groves causing pain. I would think that might be the cause since only some are hurting So maybe if you toke them off those nails it would relieve the pain

and I don't know if you set each nail 10 sec. before curing 2 min. or not but that can help them from shrinking

No tips - it's a NNO.

I usually never do the 10 sec before the 2 min. But I will try that one! Thank you so much! This has been complete agony. Love this client and don't want to lose her.

nsi do a spa ritual aroma free acrylic.

Could it be that the finger she's having pain in if she's snapped knocked her previous nails from extensions or just in genral nail bed could be slightly damaged and this may have an effect. all prodcts are different so could irratate it if tht makes sense

Hey there,
I also had something similar like that with me. I think it was to do with shrinkage. I also do a ladies nails that had really sensitive and tender nails but I had done a soak off of acrylics and then did gels I put part of it down to that. Fine when she left but then she said for 2 days later she had throbbing nails. Of course I said why didn't you call etc. Then she was fine for a while and there was no problems and then all of a sudden a couple of nails she said were throbbing again. This went on for a day or so (the throbbing). I also have had problem on my nails, not just with gels but acrylics also, but I have very thin nail plates and so does the other lady. Not due to damage, just how nails are! If it happens to me now I just take a pain killer such as a panadol and it goes after a while and I am fine, same with the other lady too! But what is odd is it isn't all the time...could it be something else in the picture?? Hormones etc?? Sorry but I would love to know more myself as have same problem!!

Shrinkage can also acure with acrylic and can start hurting after they leave the shop because the acrylic still is curing for at least 24 hrs after put on. Also if nails are thin and product applied to wet it can cause alot of shrinkage causing painful pressure, feeling like they will pop off by forch

Make sure you apply acrylic beads with the right ratio and make sure gels are cured properly, and do a 10 sec. set before full cure, is my advices. also make sure she isn't just stubing her nail,in that cause just shorten her nail they may be to long and can cause separation from nail bed. Again probably only have to take off (very carefully) the nails enhancement that hurts if its from shrinkage.
