How do you control odour? - 23-04-09, 10:37 AM

As I'm still training at college, I'm currently having to practice at home on my friends and family, but I'm finding the strong smell of the liquid permeates through the whole house even though I burn loads of candles etc. and my family are all complaining about the smell. How do those of you out there who work from home help to control the smell? Any tips?
thanks

Hello

You can buy a "Fuminator" from NSI.. Have heard there really effective,
If your doing nails in one room you should always keep the window open too, just to help. Pretty sure if you should be able to obtain one from your local wholesaler.

The other important factor is to keep a lid on your dappen dish which holds your monomer,

& only wipe your brush on a lint free pad - not the towel or whatever you use when doing nails...

Pretty sure all this will help you..

Controlling Odor:
Always have clean table towel between each client
Ensure all caps are screwed on tightly on all products
A metal rubbish bin with a liner in it and dispose of this daily
Use a small dish for monomer, dispense enough monomer for just that client (just before application), dispose of the little monomer left with a nail wipe and place wipe in rubbish bin (as soon as finished application)- I also then turn my dappen dish upside down so now dust gets into it.
Put brush away into a brush case - (a) for odor and (b) so no dust filings get onto it.
**new trick I learnt the other day*** after you scrubfresh, keep the lint free pad as your brush wipe pad - amazing tip it really works.

Always work with good ventilation.

You know, it is so easy to minimise the odour to practically nothing that I can never understand what all the fuss is about! If you are getting allot of odour or complaints about odour ..... do the following.

1. Quit wiping the monomer out of your brush on the paper! Wipe on a pad that has been dampened with sanitiser instead and there will be virtually no odour. Wiping is the biggest factor that causes odour.

2. Always cover your dappen dish immediately after use.

3. Put all used paper and wipes in a lined metal container and empty frequently.

4. Transfer all monomer to the dappen dish with a pipette.

5. Follow manufacturers guidelines and install an extraction ventilation system.

Just doing these things will virtually eliminate odour in your working area.

I've been using nsi, but soon to convert ! I'll have to get used to the monomer smells again, i find it really turns my stomach and makes me feel sick ! my partner moaned about it just yesterday so I used a quote that I read from geeg, the smell of monomer is the smell of money !

Thanks for all the replies. I seem to be doing most of what you suggest, I only put a little momoner into my dappen dish at a time, I use lint free wipes with scrubfresh to wipe my brush and as I'm not doing nails every day, I empty my bin immediately after I'm finished, and towels etc are always changed after each client, I keep the window open etc. I don't have an extractor system so if I decide to work from home this may be an option, but I guess in the meantime they're just going to have to get used to it, although they are threatening to put me out into the shed .
