Hi there are a few stratergies you can try.
1: hand out info to schools to place in there newsletters
2: put an add in the local paper eg: deals like: Full set of **** includes the 6th one free
3: recommend a friend / or bring a friend & you only pay 1/2 price
4: if you have children at sporting clubs, ask the club to put your advertisement in their weekly newsletter
5: Advertise a mani / pedi party, with nibbles etc, and say all services if booked in advance with deposit, will receive % off
6: if it is summer where you are, put flyers in the schools for all students doing there end of year "prom" / "graduation" have specials for them, and they will come in droves

Hope this helps....... Good Luck

Arr I feel for you -print a load of flyers & get pounding that pavement! Post to all houses in area, advertise in local paper-give discount for existing clients (even if they are family) to pass on to new customers-any local trade magazines or parish council newsletters?? Good luck hope this helps xxxx
P.s. unfortunately sometimes u really do have to speculate to accumulate-if they dont know you're there how are they gonna book you? Advertising really does work in the right way x

hi i sent a message to all my friends on facebook and i got about 5 replies -3 bookings and two prospective ones. (five doesnt sound much but they will recommend you and you will be recommended again from those recommendations! so your clients will spiral from there). I have printed my own price leaflets out and have been handing them out even to the few clients i have already so they can pass them on to others (one friend is a hairdresser so comes across a lot of people and is going to recommend me, another is a nurse again same reason) try to speak to people like this who deal with a lot of people - a shop in my town have offered to let me put my leaflet on their counter which should help as it is a jewellers and people who buy nice rings want nice nails when they show them off! You could try Leisure centres, supermarkets such as Morrisons have advertising boards, you could even put flyers on peoples car windscreens (I am going to try that one)! Also wedding shops, fancy dress shops, anywhere that involves big occasions would get you clients.

hope this helps!
