Totally, I love what I do and I can't imagine ever wanting to do anything else! I am so proud that what I achieve is through my own hard work!

Serious hard work and having the money behind me to pay for advertising and a fully stocked kit. I'm mobile and unless I could pay for my advertising inthe Yellow Pages and the local paper no-one would have known I was here!

Also, doing a good enough job that people recommend you to others, but that takes time.

Well, I am only a nail tech so I don't really have a 'best' treatment, but I made sure from quite early on that I can cover all a clients needs. So, I tip and I sculpt, I offer L+P and gel, I do fingers and toes, I can create anything from an in your face pink & white to a subtle natural looking enhancement and anything in between........

The thing you need to be prepared for is that is takes time, skill and determination to be a successfull nail tech or beauty therapist, and it is not a quick way to make easy money...... The rewards are there but you need to earn them.

LIke you I also have 5 children ... and I didn't even start my business until the youngest one was 10!!

I can categorically say that every ounce of effort, every penny spent, every late night at the salon, even the disappointments I had with dishonest staff members (there weren't so many really over 20 years) was worth it.

I only specialised in NAILS in my salons .. no other treatments other than nail related ones.

My best treatment was of course was providing the most beautiful andlong lasting nails in Leeds/Bradford. My best business tip is .-. learn how to run a business properly, treat your clients with respect and over deliver on their every wish.

Today I have a close and loving family and made so many friends who are important to me in my life all over the world ... it has been a fantastic ride!!

Good thread ... thought provoking.

Words can not even express my gratitude for being able to have a career that I really enjoy. Has the road been smooth?, oh no, was it hard work?, yes very, and the good times? yes plenty and give me the warmest of fuzzies.

IMO a most rewarding, friendship making, flexible, great return on investment and so worth all the practice and effort.

I enlighten the nail career to a saying I once heard "the rose"
the stem will represent all the strength that you will need throughout your journey.
the thorns will represent all the prickly times and obstacles you will face.
the leaves represent all the money you will make
and the flower (rose) represents the sweet smell of success when you achieve.

In terms of time I've spent in this business so far (2 years) and money I've earned, it may not sound much. I'm home based and dreaming of my own big white and shiny salon .

There's been ups and downs, but from the day one, I've never looked back. Now, at the end of second year, I'm really enjoying it - because when I work, I'm thinking - oh, this is so good, I really love this, and thank God for all those people coming so I can do this, and work became play, and pushing boundaries and challenges are no longer threats, but fun and satisfying curiosity and when your work feels like playing, it's no longer hard work no matter what and how long you work.

May sound silly takes some time to get there, but feeling good was worth it, and when you feel good at work (with smart accounting, of course ) money and new clients just come naturally.

I think Vetty and Geeg have given great answers I have only been in the business for 7 months, and yes, the first few months were really hard. From having to start my client base from scratch, I didnt have much custom in the first few months at all. It was disheartening, but I kept at it. Advertised, done loads of leaflet drops and tried to get as many people in as possible. These last few weeks, I have seen a dramatic rise in clients, which is great. It has given me a great boost. I get some clients who return, and some who dont (or havent yet!) but I shall keep ploughing on! I have finally finished college last night (after doing my conversion with the lovely Kirsten from CND) Funny, after watching her do a demo on only 2 fingers, I have picked up SO much and am definately booking myself in for a 1 to 1 with her.
I do find it hard sometimes, working and juggling a 3 year old and a 1 year old, but in a way it makes me go at it harder when I am there.
Like said, I think you need to have a lot of determination. I would never think about giving up, even if times are hard, because its something which I absolutely love doing and have a great passion for.
One day, Ill be able to look back after being in the industry for 20 odd years, and think, yes it was worth it, and I still love what im doing xx
