Hi...when you say around the edges do you mean the sidewalls and cuticle area...? it sounds like lifting.

Lifting can be caused by improper prep...product application (too close to skin or to thick in zone 3) and mix ratio.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. It is more around the cuticle area than the side walls. I apply a very thin coat of acrylic around the cuticle area, so it isn't that i have applied the product to thickly. It's only on the very edges of the nail. Could this possibly be dry cuticles on the clients more than my work. I am only a new trained nail tech so get a little worried when i see things like this as i want to do it properly. My client doesn't seen to have noticed and says she loves her nails. Maybe its me with lack of confidence !!!!!

Hi

First of all sanitize the clients hands then file the nails to fit the tip, i then use a metal cuticle pusher and push back the cuticles and remove any skin from the nail plate. If needed i then trim the cuticles. i then with a nail brush, brush the nails to remove dust etc then use an entity nail dehydrater to dehydrate the nail plate before applying tips. Once i have applied and blended the tips i then dust the nail plate again with the nail brush and then apply the primer. Think all this is done ok but if you have any other advice or ways of doing i would be grateful. Thank you

It sounds to me like you need to leave a tiny free margin surrounding the nail plate when you are applying your product. I don't think you are doing this, which is leading to you not being able to smooth and integrate the product sufficiently into the natural nail when finishing.

In other words, the product being too close to the skin is preventing you from filing all the way to the edge and smoothing it. Consequently as the nails grow out you are seeing this small rough edge that you weren't able to file and smooth.

Thanks for your reply, i think you are right as it is the edge of the acrylic that i am not filing. I try so hard not to go near the skin but always end up catching the skin and then struggle filing in that area. Do you have any tips on how to get a neat edge around the cuticle without catching the it.

using a smaller bead might help...as i said above keep that area nice and thin. A small bead and then blend flush to the nail.

have you seen the book called Nailclass by gigi rouse? It contains fab info for techs of all levels of experience, it has a great section about brush control. how to hold your brush at various angles for each zone etc. its packed full of great advice and I wish I had known about it when i started out.

Its a great book and you wont regret getting it.
