A funny thing happened on the way to the forums...

Well what a fun filled day of entertainment.

After getting off the phone from HABIA regarding some exciting things, I actioned a new forum for Media and industry authorities to create posts in.

The idea being that we get loads of great requests for input from magazines like Scratch and Professional Nails as well as input requests from groups like HABIA. However with the gargantuan amount of traffic we get, these threads usually get sunk long before they should do.
Previously, we have always resorted to Sticky's. A Sticky is a thread that 'sticks' to the top of the forum so you cant miss it.

Problem is, that Sticky Threads started to take up far too much room on the forum - hence the bright idea to create a separate forum.

Anyhooo. The hilarity started when I set permissions for the rag publishers and HABIA to be the only ones that can post in the Media forum.Through some bizarre method, I removed all permissions from the moderator lounge - thus making it visible for all.

The error was quickly spotted by my eagle eye night vision. Somewhat confused, but confident, I went to go reset the permissions when...
The Internet connection at work died. Yup after 2 years of never having so much as a hiccup, the whole thing kicked the bucket as some moron put the wrong wires in the wrong place at our exchange.
We are not talking a little ADSL connection or something, we are talking about a DIA that actually forms part of the Internet.

In a panic, I whipped out my laptop and tried to hijack a neighboring companies wireless connection. Perched on one leg with tin foil on my head for reception. After 15 minutes of doing this and feeling the moral ambiguity that I felt by attempting to do such a thing, I quickly changed tactics and ran to the other side of the building in a vain attempt to pick up the wireless connection being transmitted through McDonald's (who the hell put wireless access points in McDonald's anyway?!?!). After painfully filling in my details and credit card info, my payment was processed and I rejoiced.
That was until the login system told me that it would email me the password code.
Email me? WTF? I HAD NO INTERNET ACCESS TO GET MY FREAKING EMAIL!!! What genius created that system? Ronald himself?

Anyhooo, I made a dash for the phone and ordered the plug pulled on the site until I could discover the problem.
At that stage, I wasn't sure how much of the system had been made public and I wasn't taking any chances.

When I got home, I opened things up and took a look around. Luckily it was just the seldom used moderator forum and nothing too serious (except for the fun discussion that appeared to take place on certain anatomical sections of the GMG that is).

Anyhooo. It was amusing, sad and frankly freaky.

was the tin foil made in to a little hat, like the guy in the movie signs? they say putting tin foil on your head stops aliens reading your mind, pmsl, so at least if you didnt get a internet signal, the aliens couldnt read all the bleeeeeeeeppppppp words in your mind, lol

Geez, sounds like I missed out on a lot of fun.
When I tried to logon, the site didn't exist and I was like WHAAAAAAAAAT?
Where's my "fix" of daily adult convo (hey, it's hard spending your day only having two toddlers for company, and one has an earache and the other ahs the flu arrgghh)

Thanks for the descriptive narrative.
I needed those chuckles after spending night in the hosp with toddler.
