Self employed beauty or nail tech earnings.

The latest article in the Daily Mail last week said that techs on average were earning less than £8 an hour, this was about the National Nail Tech Price Increase day. I think its supposed to happen on 8th April??? Personally I'm struggling to break even and I work from home, I dread to think...

Why has Shellac started chipping on long standing client?

I don't have a view on the IBX option but I'm having the exact same peeling issues. Long standing client who went 6 weeks in lockdown now getting full sheet peeling from the cuticle within 2 weeks. A couple of others getting the same thing but they are inconsistent usually anyway. It's driving...

    Gel polish recommendations

I used to use Gel2, I still use CND SHellac but run CJP's gel polish along side as an alternative. It very different to use compared to CND, I would highly suggest a conversion course and their lamp. Prices are excellent, delivery fast and outstanding customer service. www.cjpnailsystems.com

    Make massage client

Don't be afraid, men never write they're are 'afraid' of something like this and neither should women. We're not afraid of it, even if it's not what they want to hear. “I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, I don’t offer massage to men. Im flattered that friend X recommended me but she perhaps...

Who cares if they think you are being dramatic, your child, your choices, not someone else's.

    Overlay nails

No, absolutely not, she's too young to be exposed the the chemicals involved in acrylic or gel overlays. Many insurance companies will not allow clients under 16 for this very reasons. There are plenty of nail polish options

Just moved to the Mustang area, who’s hiring?

No because we're a Nails, Beauty and Hairdressing Forum not a travel agents or car hire service 🤣 plus the OP mentioned the place Mustang not the car.

    Is it illegal

Where did you see the information? As far as I'm aware no governing body has greater powers than HMRC, it is not illegal to he employed and self employed at the same time, as long as the correct income tax is paid on each set of earnings of course

Clients demands to 'heat up' sunbed before they use

Just to let you know this thread is 10 years old, I suspect there's been changes in the tubes over thos time as all technology moves at such a fast pace. Also most of the original contributors are no longer here

    Will 2 separate business work?

We're all on the edge of being perfectionists and nutcases, it goes hand in hand with the beauty industry, its our superpowers

    Will 2 separate business work?

You can do whatever you want, nothing is permenant (fogive the pun) 🤣 Start with two seperate identities and see how it goes for a few months, if it works well then carry on, if it stalls or doesn't work the way you want it to then change it. With all kindness I think you're overthinking it...

    Chrome nail art help!

How are you trying to remove the excess? A soft brush is the best method and use a little chrome pigment as possible

    How to structure Ltd company?

You need to consult an Accountant, preferably a tax specialist, then get the arrangements you agree on set in a contract. With all the best will in the world this has the potential to go horribly wrong unless managed properly. good luck for your new venture

    Retailing products

Rule of thumb is double cost price then add VAT, whether you're VAT registered or not is irrelevant, you would have been charged VAT on your original price so it needs to be offset in your retail price.

    Plexigel

The 'B' button on your CND lamp was for Brisa, now its for PlexiGel, no timing change. soaks off so no need for e-file. I did my conversion course with S2 via Zoom

    One client's nails not lasting!

Nope, you can get acryligel that is cured in a LED/UV lamp but a traditional Liquid & Powder acrylic system will not cure in a lamp. They do not include a photoinitiator ingredient to cure them. Also this thread is from 2016 and most of the contributors have left now so you probably won't get...

    Pain Under Finger Nails

OK, my concern was over zealous use of an efile, assuming you're not using one on yourself then we can exclude an outside trauma cause. We're not going to be able to help you any further. We are specifically trained and educated not to 'diagnose', we are not doctors or medically qualified. Our...
