    Self employed advice

No. It goes against all industry norms and sounds like an illegal self employed setup. I'd just ship to somewhere else immediately and then small claims court for the rest/backdated pay.

    Partnership Arrangement

When you say partnership, it doesn't really sound like a partnership. Sounds like a normal commission-based deal. I don't think you'd be splitting the costs of any marketing materials so that's all on you. The VAT threshold is £85k so until you hit that in turnover, you don't have to worry...

Renting out a room, advice needed.

Would the permission from the council and mortgage company cover someone else coming in? Also, insurance needs consideration. Daily rate or I wouldn't bother personally. Hourly just means if they don't have bookings you aren't getting paid.

What is happening to beauty industry??

The only generational thing is perhaps realising their worth more. Sadly, as I'm sure you'll agree, Beauty is an underpaid industry so it can be hard to aspire to want a career in the industry. We are hopefully finally switching from a live-to-work to a work-to-live attitude.

    Advice on Planning Permission

Can’t imagine you’d need planning permission but you’re likely to need council and mortgage company permission for a business from home. Also will likely need to let your home insurance know who may withdraw cover.

    Help!

Whilst I agree for the most part, personally I wouldn't put Fiverr and expert in the same sentence :)

What are you offering to try and find the right person?

    Reception

The fact your therapists are very busy and you’re looking to cut expenses is fine. But when it’s to the detriment of client experience - IE receptionist not being around etc. then you need to look at the real problem. The problem is you aren’t earning enough to keep things profitable enough to...

    Working from home.

Not unless you want to get your mortgage elsewhere and to be honest, that's a terrible idea in the current mortgage market as you'll probably end up on a higher deal (I'm guessing). Not even worth considering going against them or it could have huge implications.

    Self Employed Contract

Sounds like the contract is flimsy at best. I highly doubt it’s legally enforceable. You can seek legal advice and run it by a professional but can I ask if a professional actually drafted it? If not, and as you’re leaving the industry, I’d just tell them your last date and they either deal...

    Help! Getting worried!

Unfortunately the cost of living crisis is going to cripple people for the near to medium term. Any luxury spending will stop/be reduced. People are cutting shopping, cutting oven use, cancelling streaming services, looking at any way possible to save. The fact is, when most people are going...

    Client insurance claim

It means she can't 'personally' be liable so personal assets are safe but it doesn't stop the whole business being gutted if required to settle any court order.

    Client insurance claim

If proper procedures weren't followed then the insurance could be void and then the owner could be directly sued as the owner of the business and if not a LTD company, could personally be liable in court.

    Self employed at a salon

That doesn’t sound like self employed at all.

Has the industry changed since Covid?

This is the same in a lot of industries. In the tech industry for example there are companies offering VERY good pay and benefit packages now and struggling for candidates. People have realised a few things since covid and one or more points may now apply; Life is too short to be working a...

    Self employed commission spilt

There is no such thing as self-employed split when employed by the way. Honestly, if you're self-employed, which it sounds like you are, then you agree to a split/flat rate for the space on days agreed and do your own marketing to drum up clientele. It's not expected for the salon to give...

    Freelance from an empty room

It’s risky starting with no financial savings. Marketing and branding costs money. As someone just starting out solo you may struggle to get that high of a deposit off people too. Plus if they give you notice of cancellation you have to refund them so need to keep that in mind.

Take the leap & go self employed?

Make sure you have plenty of savings :) It's expensive to get your marketing off the ground and to build your clientele up again from scratch so you'll need money in the bank to cover your personal life for 6-12 months ideally while the business builds. Whilst being self-employed can be great...
