How short is too short to wax?

I tell my clients at least 3-4 weeks growth... i.e. Hair needs to be length of a grain of rice.

    Room renting advice

How many days are you there and how much are you paying (if you don’t mind telling us?). Did you provide the couch/nail desk/etc - and the salon owner is expecting the new person to use them?

    Sacking a client

Do it by text, polite but firm. You don’t owe her anything, not even a phone call. “Hi X, I have decided to cancel all further appointments you have booked in with me. You have made it clear on a number of occasions that you are not satisfied with my work, my timings, or my prices, and...

    Need advice-massage certificate

I don't understand why you haven't just phoned the training academy and explained the situation and asked them to issue you with another certificate? To be honest, if you were willing to pay her for the certificate anyway, then you'd be better to take that money and spend it on an updated...

    What is 'Salongeek'?

This industry has devalued itself. The sad truth is that anyone *can* do it. Anyone *can* with no prior experience do a 1 day accredited course which then allows them to get insurance and start working on the unsuspecting public. Even this forum is open to absolutely anyone [emoji12] no...

Mental health hospital - working mobile

I would charge at least, if not MORE than, what you'd earn on an average day currently. It's going to be hard work. I used to work for the NHS in a MH unit, it's a faff getting in and out, if it's anything like where I worked you'll need to book all of your equipment in and out and account for...

    Cancellation policy complaint

Regardless of when you sent the reminder text, they STILL only gave you 1hr 30mins notice. Ignore him, he's bluffing.

Help, serious hair complaint - solicitor mentioned!

You're not insured?! Then you need to have a think about whether it'll be cheaper to just refund her, or take the chance that she takes you to court and wins and it costs you a lot more than the refund. And obviously, get insurance asap for future.

How to massage a gentleman with Priapism

Lol, surely this isn't serious, you can't be that gullible [emoji23]

    Buying a salon

Why the rush? Sounds like you're danger of being railroaded into something without doing proper due diligence. My advice - take your time, run the finances under the eyes of a good accountant, get a solicitor involved - all the basic stuff someone would do when buying a business. It simply...

Please help with what to say

Well I've got to say I'm not quite clear from your post what you do and don't charge for, so I'm not surprised your clients aren't sure either. So you don't charge for removal if you're reapplying gel? But you do charge for removal if it's someone else's work regardless of whether you're...

Starting a new business with a friend

My advice is, go it alone. What are the advantages of starting a business with your friend if it's from home? Who's home? What if one of you is incredibly busier than the other - how will profits be split? If you do go in together, get a shareholders agreement drawn up by a solicitor.

    Beauty Awards, is it legitimate?

Funny how these awards pretty much ALWAYS involve salons or individuals spending hundreds of pounds to attend a ceremony...

    Ingrowing hairs

I use it and really rate it for prevention of ingrown hair rather than cure. For retail though it's a tad too expensive (in my opinion). My best retail products for ingrown hair are Aloe Clear and Bump Eraiser. Actually Bump Eraiser really is magic stuff, for anyone has lots of red, sore...

How do I reply to this client?

Hahaha she consulted a home user who does "gel nails for her friends and family" for advice. And she last had her nails done 5-6 years ago. That says it all. I'd be tempted to reply with... "as per my previous message, unfortunately some people's nails are just not suited to gel nail polish...

    I need some legal advice

You're right - you need legal advice - as in, someone sitting down with you and going through all of the paperwork, contracts, invoices, accounts, etc. You need to find a very good solicitor and/or an independent accountant.

    Regular monthly client payments

I think this would be a time consuming admin task. Pretty sure there are fairly stringent rules around setting up direct debits, you'd have to go through a vetting process yourself and I doubt you'd be approved for something like this. You'd end up having to get the clients to do a monthly...

    Advice on pricing?

Work out your treatment cost, overheads, how long it'll take you, and how much you'd like to earn per hour. Then see if that's anywhere near what other salons in your area are charging.

    New treatment - something different

Dermaplaning seems to be big round my way at the minute, only a few salons doing it but everybody wants it. I think it may have had its day by next year though. The trick is to get in there and be one of the first to offer something.

Should I give customers Groupon price without them purchasing the voucher?

I agree - Groupon is a mugs game. However if that's the game the OP has chosen to play then of course the clients are doing her a favour by bypassing Groupon. The client gets the cheap treatment which they're going to get anyway, and the OP doesn't have to give half of her (non) profit away...
