Do I need to tip for a free fix up by due to salon's mistake? - 02-07-12, 08:57 PM

Hi,

I had lash extensions done and most of the lashes fell out before a weeks time, they usually last 3 weeks, up to 5 weeks with immaculate care. I've had the same lash extensions done by a different person from the same salon a few times before and am familiar with the proper care and maintenance so the fault of my lashes falling out was due to the salon's bad job.

I emailed them and they promptly scheduled me in for a free fix up due to their error. I tipped them properly when I went in for my lash extension. Should I tip them again for this free fix up services that was due to the salon's error. I feel as if I shouldn't since I'm taking time out of my busy schedule to get it fixed. It also takes me about 40 minute commute each way to get to their salon.

Thanks for your help!

I'm in the UK where tipping is not mandatory and completely at the customers discretion.

In your neck of the woods, i believe the tip is based on how much the service cost. Your service is free, therefore you do not HAVE to tip as any percent of $0 is $0.

Saying that, i would play it by ear. Decide on the day if you think your therapist is worth tipping. It may not be the same girl who applied the faulty lashes and you may find that she covers your every need and deserves to be tipped. Or she may just be so-so and then you can leave it. Your choice xx

Thanks for your advice. I was thinking the same thing. I had my lashes done by a different girl, the girl who usually does it was out of town. If it's the usual girl who does my lashes, I might tip her at least 5$ but if it's by the same girl, probably no tip since I tipped her already.
