No, you haven't missed anything. You can see the kind of attitude people are confronted with in the post right before yours, Deanosnana.
And, in my view, it's a very unprofessional one. If someone is unhappy, it's very reasonable to ask what the problem is and try to rectify it not to dismiss their request. I've not been in here long and in that time I've connected with some fantastic, truly wonderful people. I've read many threads that have been brilliant and have marvelled at many people in here who have the capacity to truly reach out and embrace the camaraderie this industry is known for. The flip side is that you can meet some very nasty people too. Such is life. Only today I've been met with a person who has taken umbrage at some lighthearted digs I've made and rather than approach me privately to express their concern or seek clarification, they've immediately accused me of having an axe to grind and automatically presume that I've not spoken to a mod and if I do, then it would be them. Ahem. Do I take issue? No, because when someone does this to you it's a clear indication that not all is well in their life and I simply hope for them that whatever it is, passes. Unfortunately though, some take nastiness to heart (which is fair enough if you're not used to forum life) and it affects them greatly. Yes, to some it may be considered an overreaction but to others it's a big deal. And unfortunately there are those who take advantage of this, such is the varying perception of power that some people think they possess. At the end of the day, it's all text. I would say to those who seek to leave SalonGeek to ignore the tetchy posters and get with the fabulous individuals that come in here. Because they are there and they are worth it. xxx |

Do you know honestly it just gets worse. What is the point in starting a thread like this? I have been a member on this site since 2005 and yes I have made some right bloomers, two of them most recently which I know you all know what I am talking about. And in fact I have actually avoided the main forums simply because I was so concerned that my responses would be harsh, sarcastic and nasty (not at all like me) that I havnt visited the forums for ages and I really miss it.
When I finally do I come across this thread. I absolutely love this site and its being riuned by some individuals that simply just wont go away. Rather than start such a defamatory thread thats gonna incite anger why dont you simply: GO AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The moderators on here do a fantastic job and they don't need grief like this. The regulars that frequent this site give education and advice away for free, they don't need grief like this. The emotional support you get on this site is second to none and they don't need grief like this. Even when you royally mess up like I have I have recieved support. But never in a million years would I turn around and blame someone else. Am I mad, too bloody right I'm mad and thats it I've had enough, I am coming back to the forums and I'm gonna say my piece but in future I am gonna think very carefully before posting! RANT OVER!!!!!!!! |

Whoa !
I can't believe how something can be whipped up into such a frenzy from practically nothing!! What a storm in a teacup this is turning out to be. For what it is worth I read velveteens comment in the shoutbox....and really did laugh out loud ! Of course it was tongue in cheek! Sorry Sandi, maybe you were in a sensitive mood that day, but I did wince a little at your response, you obviously didn't 'get' the humour intended and just saw the dig, but hey ho we are all human and can have off days, especially hard working mods! As for topics we don't discuss on here I thought that was only the usual Sex, Politics and Religion......not Sport........although methinks the thread that kicked all this off was technically about sport, but really was all about sex and morals!! It was always going to end with a big red cross at the end...come on!! So can we all just settle back down and carry on as normal.......even I am getting scared to post on here these days for fear of being misunderstood That said even if I did get misconstrued, I don't think I could chuck my toys out of the pram and never come back!!! (so no luck there Mods |

Velveteen if you had read the geek commandments in the first place you will realise why your thread was closed. Commandments of a Geek It just shows a lack of respect and maturity when you go ranting in the shout box for all to see, It was like seeing a child have its toy taken away and it throwing a tantrum. And then to have a vindictive dig at a moderator who in my honest opinion is one of the best on this site, who did not close the thread in the first place just asked you do air your gripes in private with her rather than on the shout box is a bit like pot calling the kettle black im afraid. You didnt air this privately you did it in the shout box for all to see. And then still commented on it. Geek is a fabulous site, sadly there are others who feel the need to get rises out of people by posting ridiculous comments and threads that are just there to get everyone elses backs up. These people come cause upset then are never heard of again in most cases. If people are saying things that you dont agree with then choose not to participate that is your perogative but dont then have digs at people, when things dont go your way is a sure fire way of people reacting to your posts. And maybe not in a way that you would like. Jeni |

We don't usually discuss things that go on behind the scenes on threads but I felt that this really needed a bit of clarification, hence my shoutbox comment. I also don't appreciate the personal insults that have been thrown my way from the same person... |

Gosh I thought I got bad PMT I do a post..and someone takes offence.. they do a post... I take offence... but who cares...move on and just ignore them if need's be... We are probably a very highly spirited bunch...passionate maybe...and with this all being done through words it can often lead to situations like this. Take a chill pill and enjoy this site for what it really boils down to... brilliant education xxxx |

ok peeps.
There seems to be some drama.com in the air. Lets take a breather, get a nice mug of whatever and get back to geeking. For closure, I will address the OP and off topic points: 1. We only delete accounts in extreme situations and certainly never for dramatic exits. Deleting an account completely fubars threads. If you don't want to be part of the community, its easy enough to simply not come back. 2. The discussion about sport was not an issue. The problem was it made a quick left turn into a discussion about a different kind of sport with balls and more importantly, it was getting rather quickly heated with moral viewpoints. It is our experience that morality debates always turn into flame wars - hence the reason that this is not the place to discuss religion. 3. If you don't like a mods decision - please do us a favour and let us know. Use the report feature in PM's or posts. None of us are perfect and we all have off days. Reporting the issue gives us a chance to review the matter and make things right. Finally, if dramatics are your thing - I encourage you to exercise those skills to their fullest - but please not here. |
