Hello everyone out there in Geekdom!!

I'm so excited...I'm officially a "Geeklette" I told all my friends, they thought I was crazy, but, oh well.

I have not been a member on the site for a very long time (about a month or so) and I have a couple of questions. I promise, I will try my best not to make an idiot of myself by asking dumb, meaningless questions ...Okay, here we go!

On the profile page at the bottom right hand side it will say "Ms. Matrix is not a part of any public groups." What exactly are public groups??

What are attachments? Are they like email attachments or picture attachments?

I'm from the US and alot of our terminology is different, I've picked up that L&P must be some type of acrylic system but what does it stand for?

How long does a thread stay open? and when it closes is it because it has reached the maximum reply amount or because of the length of time that it has been open or is it a maximum amount of posts?

I've noticed that some people have well over 1,000 posts but only have one little green box and maybe 3 or 5 little stars, and some will have maybe 100 or 200 and have maybe one star and three little green boxes...What does that mean?

I hope I'm not sounding to silly by asking these questions but I have searched and couldn't find the answers and it's been buggin me something awful!!

Might I add I JUST LOVE THIS SITE!! I think I may be addicted...

P.S. (1-23-05) I was just viewing who was online and I noticed a "google spider" just what the heck is a "google spider?" This is the second time I've noticed it and it seems a bit creepy, it's not one of the users because I tried to click and see what kind of info came up, it's not a link like everyone else's names...I hope somebody knows what it is and why it's here...I don't like real live spiders and this one doesn't seem like one that should be here either. I could be wrong there could be a vaild explanation for it...so if there is, here's my apology in advance: Oops! Sorry.

Hello and welcome to the site. I can answer a couple of your questions for ya. The question about the 'public groups'....they are groups like yahoo, ICQ and MSN I think. Don't quote me on that one.

L&P stands for Liquid and Powder nail system. All nail enhancement are some form of acrylic plastic so it makes sence to describe which one people like to use ei; liquid and powder, fibreglass or gel.

Threads don't really close unless GMG (Grand Master Geek) closes them for whatever reason. So the best thing to do before asking a question is do a 'search' on your question and see if it has been answered before.

That is about all I can answer for you. Don't feel alone I am addicted to this site too.

I think you will find the little green boxes pertain to 'reputation' - good or bad!!!

The stars pertain to how manys posts you have made....I am not sure of the exact figures to get to the next star but one star is a fairly new geek.....but to get to 5 you are at Geeg status!!!!! If you look at Geeg's profile she has 5 stars and has made almost 3,300 posts!!!!

If you have a question try doing a search as 9 times out of 10 it has been asked before!!!!

Hi All.....I joined this site a few months ago, and think this site is the greatest!!! I too am trying to get to grips with navigating my way round it. I'm a teacher by trade but did my foundation (Creative) a few months ago and loved it!! The pity is that I don't get too much practice what with the nature of my work and having an 17 year-old son and 14 year-old daughter. Still, I'm check out the site daily and have to say am learning loads!!!!

I am 1/2 US 1/2 UK (American mum, Brit Dad) anyway yes, some terminology is different and sometimes it depends on which company you trained with. Again Nailz666 answered this one perfectly - L&P is Liquid and Powder as opposed to Fiberglass or Gel. All systems are under the 'acrylic' umbrella so we differentiate between them!

Hi Yolanda, I asked about google spiders a while back, Geeg replied: Google Spiders come on the site form time to time to categorize the topics so that when anyone does a search through Google for anything nail related, the nailgeek website will come up on the page.

They are a programme that Google uses for important web sites not just any old tidgey little web site mind you!!

So 3 cheers for the nailgeeks!! We are now officially important because of thenumber of posts we do every day.

Hi Deb. Go to the forum you want to post in (i.e. Main or Nail Art) where all the different threads are listed.
At the top and bottom of each page, there will be a button that says 'new thread'. That is how you start a new thread!
