yeah, I guess I was thinking along the lines of some of the threads are not necessary and sometimes we get very personal and it is being read all over the globe!. But then after reading your post Sam I also realised that it is due to the fact sometimes that you can post these off topic threads that keeps us coming back. When you have a problem,no matter what it is about, and you are alone - or feel alone - you can come on here and find someone who understands - I will pay whatever prem geek subscription you charge for that privelege, Sam.
Also I just press teh "New Posts" button so i get all posts anyway no matter what category they are in so I wonder whether extra categories might result in double postings as in sometimes geeks post the same thread in chit chat and in main? |

I don't think we really need any more forums, the main forum covers everything nail related anyway so separating it into natural nails & enhancements seems pointless. I imagine most people click on the new posts link anyway so it wouldn't make any difference. I just skim through the new posts & read what I want to. I wouldn't mind having different forums but I don't see how that would change much.
As Sam said, this is a community, killing the chit chat in threads would put me off as I like to get to know geeks as people. I like that I can have a laugh at the same time as getting help & information. If someone posts saying thank you or something it doesn't bother me, it's just polite. I just skim over it then back to new posts again. |

Just 1 more thing....sorry...not really to do with forums but with threads....it would be nice if threads titles explained a little more what the thread was about....what i mean is.....sometimes i see a new thread with the title "Ahhhhhhhhh" and its about lifting or "why why why" and its about clients not showing up etc....the only reason this bothers me a little is because if i was looking for help with lifting would the search pick that thread up with the title "Ahhhhhhh" and its makes it a little harder to find help through search when the titles arnt really relevant to the thread. I just wouldn't want to miss a great piece of advice due to not looking at the right threads because of the titles. Again i hope i have explained this ok...xxxx

Ya - the advertising...
The problem with that is that I havent fully finished the coding side of it... Its a lot more compicated than it looks. The lack of advertisments isnt for lack of queries - we have had tons of those. Its just been down to me having the time to finish up the system and the consultants finishing up the rate card I would most likely anticpate seeing ads in a couple of weeks from now. |

I too like the site as it is. Everytime I check in, I go straight to New Posts. I read all the titles that appeal to me and if I have time to kill, I skim the ones that dont.
I agree that thread titles could be better worded but, I guess as we're all different and new peeps are joining all the time, we'll never get it totally right there. If we had to have another forum I would say Education cos as already said, it comes up soo often but, I cant help but think that threads would drip back into main! I too used to cringe at some of the things that peeps post sometimes... airing dirty linen in public as they say but, if I find something distasteful I just dont participate but, I do value the community feeling we have going on here! Also, without Chitchat, well I wouldn't have my shiny new Miele sitting under the stairs would I, lol!!! |

I love the site the way it is. I do love the family feel of the site but the one thing I have noticed of late is that there are lots more chit chat threads than actual main nails threads.

Even thow i voted for natural nail care and business i really don't miss any new forum. I do check the new ones with the "new posts" facility, regardless of where the post is. But it would be nice to store these posts on specific forum for future reference. I know there is always the "seach" facility but something might be missed.
Like for example if some one is seting up a new salon, she might go to the business forum and see what has been discussed and she might need to know (hope this makes sense) |

I like the site just like this...but I did vote for the virgin forum and the education forum. As far as the chit chat, I'd be a lost soul without it, I value knowing that I have friends across the globe that are concerned with my well-being and what going on with me, not just my nails or my clients nails. You guys are like family to me and I wouldn't trade that feeling in for all the tea in China. When I come on the site I really don't post much in main because right now I don't feel I have anything relavant to contribute and I probably won't until I go back to school after the baby is born...
Okay, that's my two cents... |

I only use the new posts button and i hover over them to see if i want to continue reading them.
Education seems to be a big Yes, lots of people come on here looking for information about nail courses, maybe the big companies could write a geek article that gives a description of their courses, prices, and locations. i think the new people would appreciate this, although they would still ask who we prefer and this is just down to personal preference and sometimes location of training. Sory just had to add i dont like the har dee ha section it drives me mad. |

I read new posts when i log on, but i've only been a nail tech since November last year so sometimes i ask questions which others may find daft, so i think that it wouild be nice to have a faq section where you can go through really basic questions that are asked time and time again. I know that we have a search facility, but if you enter a word or phrase, sometimes the answers are hard to find.
Just my two penn'orth (for what its worth) |

If you needed new forums (which I don't think you do) then I voted for Virgin as they tend to go into main and not chit chat. I also voted for other, to create a beauty forum. Now I know this is a nail site, but there are more and more peeps adding beauty services to add to their treatment menu to try and make a living. I would have been lost recently without Katelisa'a invaluable help about waxing, but I wonder if a lot of nail techs would have felt the same.
That said I don't go into individual forums anyway, I click on new posts and scan over each title to see if it is of interest to me. So you could have just one forum as far as I'm concerned. But I do sometimes miss things as the New Posts has a time limit on it. I know Little Angel asked for the Last 24 Hours to be returned and I agree, I never missed anything with that little baby!!! With regards to the "I agree" "well done" etc or the "I'll watch this post too as I'd like to know the answer". yes they do take up valuable space and can be annoying, but it's what makes us special! We are a caring and friendly community and I wouldn't have it any other way. I finish renting space in the hair salon TODAY and will be working solo for a while. I will miss having someone to share my day with - the good the bad and the ugly - in the salon. But that's where this site comes to the fore. We all help and support and care for each other and Sam you should be very proud that the site has progressed as it has. MWAH |
