Hi there geeky ones
It's taken me a while to think about how to express my opinion with regard to the rep system (Plus I have been extra busy with life!).
I wanted it to be a constructive response so hopefully it fills that criteria.
Firstly, I like Izzidoll and others are "gutted" that the rep system has gone. The reason? I worked hard at gaining a good reputation - trying to post thoughtfully and carefully and I believe that in the majority of cases I did
I was proud of my reputation and newbies could see quite quickly who were the most knowledgable/helpful peeps. Now a newbie signs on and they haven't got a clue who is who with the exception of the mod squad.
How will they know for example (hope you don't mind me using you Glo
)that Glorsclaws is a fab tech and photo comp tech - there is nothing to alert them to what a talented interesting person she is
.
One of the first things I realised was that the more blue blips someone had then the more willing they were to share and help - otherwise - why would they have them?
With regard to negative reps, it's not something that ever cames easy for me to dish out - I had to be really upset to give one! However, I did think that they were open to abuse and this is just not fair play (sorry that sounds a bit childish -will think of how to re-word it later
)
Positive reps however, gave loads of geeks a smile and made them feel important - I tried to give out lots and perhaps this could be seen to be perhaps ego stroking - but IMHO I was just trying to dish out a bit of happiness
How do we resolve this? well I certainly don't want to have some of my dearest friends unindated with complaints about neg reps so the old rep system would work for a while and then be back to being abused - so IMHO shouldn't be brought back exactly the way it was.
What I would like to see is my lovely blue blips back under my name and when giving rep for either negative or positive, then we would have fixed options/quotes

IMHO I totally disagree with your opinion.
I believe if this type of system were to be used, it would definitely cut out the ability to send abusive rep and if it is a really bad post/thread then the option to report it would still be there. Sure the odd person may still use the rep system incorrectly but I'm sure that the mods are extemely clever and aware of who are the trouble causers.
The other thing that I would change is no name left for either positive or negative rep "why" you all gasp
Well, we all love getting positive rep - we are all pleased when we see it so, the rep giver is already aware of that warm mushy feeling as they experience itwhen they receive it
. Therefore no need to leave a name - not as much ego stroking could be carried out as nobody would no for definite who had left what!. Negative - well I don't need to even go there do I geeks?
It's not so long since the rep quotes were re-jigged - so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the system will be re-jigged and those that enjoyed giving out pos rep can do so - sooner rather than later
