What we are no longer allowing are ads in signatures. This means no ad links or ad banners at the bottom of a post. That doesn't mean you can't link to off-site promotional pages, or have images in your signature. What it does mean is that you just cant use promotional verbiage in the link. The difference is simple:
Good -> My website Bad-> Click here to book your training with me. NOW!!! QUICK!! FREE DISCOUNT IF YOU CLICK NOW!!! PLEASE HURRY!!! WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS??!??! /cry This isn't a way to try and force people to advertise 'properly', it is a way to try and keep the site spam free. And not because people are overly taking advantage of it, but because people could which in my experience here means that eventually people will. As far as a Super Premium geek status, it certainly sounds cool but if it just so people can put advertisements at the bottom of each of their posts then I don't really see the need for it. Lets face it, the banners that appear here are MORE than enough advertising for my tastes! Lets not give people incentives to spam threads just so their ad appears more frequently and so they can get more link backs to their site (not that I think anyone has done this... YET)! As to the aforementioned link... just report it and the team will take care of it. I don't think there has been a time where we haven't knowingly done so! Kimmi: I responded to you at least once with advertising information, sadly the sheer nature of web advertising isn't as simple as saying "it costs X amount per month". When you advertise with us, it costs x amount for every 1,000 times a banner appears. You can limit what part of the world you want it the ads to appear, you can limit how many times per day it will show and you can even have multiple banners going at the same time for no additional cost. What you can't have is a guarantee is that a banner would appear x amount of times a day (no more, no less). Anyhooo, I hope that helps clear things up. We appreciate everyones understanding in the matter. Remember, it is all to ensure your Geeking experience stays a great one |

To me this says we can link to what we like, as long as its not written "COME BUY THIS THAT AND THE OTHER". |

From a distributor/manufacturers perspective -
11-07-08, 02:01 PM
I have found that the changes have certainly helped someone in such a situation where I find myself.
It is a difficult line to walk when involved on this site if you are a manufacturer in that they/we have to be ultra carefull not to,or be seen to, cross over the line...not the easiest of things to do in some situations. Having adoped absolutley no identification to avator or signature I have found it to be a great help in not being seen to promoting or spamming sort of stuff and frees you up more to just to participate generally. I also feel that in general terms the site looks and has a better feel without all those flashing neon lights...leave that to banner advertising to dazzel and delight. Hoping that wasn't to much bulls**t to digest in one mouthfull
