I made the mistake a few days ago of promoting a portion of the business in one of the forums and was reprimanded accordingly, and having now read the rules, i realise what this site is all about.
I think it is fair that if people pay for advertising, they should be displayed at regular intervals and only those that wish to visit the advertisers site, can do so based on their decision.
For the PM method to be used for advertising, this is essentially cold calling which is a poor standard of advertising. Similar if you like to what i inadvertantly did in the forum. If we as suppliers are wanting to promote our services in a good light, it should be done following the rules.

I can certainly vouch for the banner advertising route which relay isn't expensive to be sure and remember the power of search engines...google in words associated with our wonderful business sector and somewhere on page one will be a quote from this forum.
It is imperative that manufacturers/distributors/dealers/trainers etc that derive a benefit from using this (or any other) forum simply by being here as an active participant do "put something back into the pot" and contribute to the running costs of the site that is enjoyed by so many peeps.
You will find that if you are in a position of being a supplier that with banner advertising you can focus on the open boards simply in an advisory, helpful and "up front" peep without the need to be plying your wears with every other word you breath (or post)
Even if you are offering training in some shape or form banner advertising will also work for you.....the costs are relatively low and with the choice of 5 separate banners per campaign....well...why not get together with 4 other peeps..share the cost which divided into 5 is cheaper than a small add in the freebie local paper...and promote your services to a much wider audience
Nothing in life is free...put something back
