This isnt intended to be ar*y at all.

I merely needed a little clarity, as im puzzled.

Recently got an email suggesting that my signature is objectionable as it contains advertising.

However, I noticed a lot of people on here have links to their website and to their business- take a thread like this 'puter question the majority of posters (including me) include a link to their business.

When does a link to an external website stop being advertising? When they're looking to gain from users? Because its a moot point as to why anyone would post a link to their business if they didnt intend to show off what they do.

From what I seem to remember a while ago, a text link in a signature was OK, but a banner image link was not.

I was quoted this "Signatures are not a place to advertise. Promotional verbiage in off-site links will be treated the same as spamming"

Seems to be a fine line to tread. I think a lot may be due to the wording used.

Lol I know what you mean. Even so I am considering paying for banner advertising on here to advertise my little empire, as they seem quite reasonably priced.

I am not sure where the confusion is coming from?

A link to someones salon is a link to a business, however it is clearly not meant to garner business from this sites target audience. Put simply, how many nail professionals are going to click on a salons link and say "damn, I'm going there for all my beauty needs now!"

Using signatures (or starting threads) to financially benefit their owner from sales generated from the sites target audience is in fact... advertising and/or spam and as such, not allowed.

This change came about from the vast amounts of billboards after each persons post. In fact, it was a lot like watching network TV in the USA: 2 minutes of content followed by 2 minutes of commercials

The confusion came from the wording of what I was told, not the act itself - which I entirely concede is fair enough. You've got banners to sell

TBH, not really bothered about selling banners, just trying to keep them to a bearable amount while ensuring that we don't get loads of lame-o's posting drivel in an attempt to get free advertising.

Just had a quick look at the link above..im either blind as cant see anyone with a link...or everyone has cleaned up their signatures as a result of this posting LOL

Col- I think it was the fact that I HAD A banner image that was objectionable- which in hindsight is fair enough.

But being a designer I cant help using images...and my god i'm reasonably priced too.........joking!
