Eyebrow waxing problem-please help - 01-11-09, 03:33 PM

I have a client who has been comming to me for at least five years for her eyebrow wax and has had them done previously too. Two months ago I waxed them as normal and afterwards they looked fine and not particularly red etc, When she came back a month later she told me that they had been very sore and red for a week after but did not scab over, the only thing I could put it down to was that the wax maybe wasnt quite warm enough and it pulled the skin, but I had been waxing all day and no other clients had had a problem.

I waxed them again this time and again they looked fine afterwards, I phoned her the next day and she said that they were absolutly fine, no problems at all.

She came back in yesterday and had her legs, underarms, bikini and eyebrows done again, before I did her brows I again asked her if they had been fine the last time and she said yes, I said are you sure and she said yes there were no problems! Then at the end of the day she came to show me that they were again red and sore. Then at this point she told me that they were not ok the last time they were sore aswell and that she had not told me the truth.

I said that I would not have waxed them again if she had told me. Please can somebody give me some advise on why this could suddenly be happening after years of waxing. Does continual waxing thin the skin?? I have checked the temperature of the wax every time and made sure her medication has not changed, there were no problems with the other areas waxed.

I bet your bottom dollar that it is nothing you did.

She has either developed in allergy or intollerance to an igredient in the wax, or she is using something different on her skin or medication.

It may possibly be what you apply after you wax her.

Ask her to pop in for a patch test of each prodct that you use on her, ie. pre wax cleanser, oil, wax and soothing lotion. Take a photo and note where you apply them. Ask her to give you honest feedback 48hrs later.

xxx

Thanks Kim,

I will call her tomorrow and try the patch tests. I am not 100% sure she is telling me everything

Has she possibly entered the menopausal phase of her life i have found that this can be a factor in long term clients suddenly becoming sensetive to things they have used for ages.
I personally have noticed my own skin is less tolerant especially my eyes.Where once i could use any mascara they now itch like mad and swell up and i haven't actually found any i feel comfortable to wear.My eyes do take longer to settle after waxing as well.

I had not thought of this but will ask her, she did say that she was finding her skin more sensitive recently.

If she is in her 40s its definately a possibility. The peri menopause stage can last round a bout 6 years or more and thinning of skin, sensitivity, hair thinning head and eyebrows, rashes, itching, hairy lips chins etc can all be symptoms she may be in that stage...great isn't it something to look forward to
