Redface Orange customer...what went wrong? - 03-11-09, 12:27 AM

hi geeks

needing some advice yet again!!

i sprayed a client on fri night who has rung back today to my horror said that she came out very dark and very orange her family made fun of her the whole weekend! she saw the funny side and it hasnt put her off but someting has gone wrong and i dont no what as i have had no other complaints so far!

i used tantrick essence of summer which is only about 8% and i didnt do anything different in spraying her as i would anyone else. she said she had applied moisturiser that morning (i tanned her in the evening) which did annoy me as i did explain to her what she needed to do before the tan over the phone i did still spray her but explain that the moisturiser might act as a barrier and told her not to do it next time. she has had years on sun beds and sun showers so could this effect the finish. my understanding of the tantrick eos is that it adapts to ur skin tone. i did pop round to see her today to see how orange she looked i didnt think she looked all that bad but she said she has spent the last 3 days scrubbing it off! lol

any advice would be greatly received x

An orange tan is usually the result of an overload of DHA.
Did the moisturizer she applied maybe have some DHA in it? Try and find out what she used.
I don't use Tantrick but i have sampled it and found that their percentages came out darker. So my 8% that i use now is not as dark as the Tantrick 8%. Maybe you can try with a 5% next time.
I personally have never used anything less than an 8% even on very pale clients and have never sent anyone orange (apart from when i've sampled other solutions) and i've done hundreds of tans. People have different PH levels on their skin so it's always best to start off with the lowest % for their skin type.
They may argue with you but stick to your guns.
I had a new client wanting an 18% and i talked her into having a 12. She came back 2 weeks later for another tan and said it was the best tan she had ever had and could she have the 12% again please

I would be inclined to say the same as Angelina, the moisturiser she has used must have had DHA in it,
lots of companies make them, avon, dove, johnsons just to name a few,
or she may have been using a moisturiser like this over time to build up some colour,
it would cause a DHA over load and probably not be compatible with the tantrick,
i have never had 1 one person go orange with tantrick, especially not the EOS as it is made for red heads and blondes, hth

thanks guys for getting back to me.

im going to see her towards the end of the week she wants me to spray a leg in each solution 1 eos the other autumn! but before i do i think i will use the buffer wipes to make sure she has the correct ph balance and no moisturiser on! i will also ask to have a look at her moisturiser that she used to check the ingredients!

EOS is in fact an 8.5% solution and a high grade DHA so can well compare with much higher solutions by some other brands and yes it will to a certain extent adapt to the specific skin type of the recipricant...therein is the possible problem with this customer....Im not sure the application of moisturiser has anything to do with the tan outcome...indeed if not a DHA based moisturiser then it would have acted as some form of barrier and therefore reduce any DHA overload and could have caused a patchy outcome.

I think your customer really has simply had a case of DHA overload specific to her skin type and would therefore recommend that trying a Tantrick 8% Original spray tan application next time could well do the trick for her
