Hi folks,

I am looking to do a Beauty Therapy course distant learning as I have a full time job which I cannot afford at the moment to give up. I have been looking around to do it distant learning.

Can anyone advise if they think this is good idea - or have any suggestions????

Hi there

New to Salon geek but i thought i would try and help with your issue.

Im at beauty college at the moment, i work full time in an office, do nails on a night and go to college on a saturday, its tiring but can be done, and think it will be worth it! (i hope) what do you mean by distant learning?

I can see why you are looking to do a distance learning course, but to be honest, you aren't going to get the full benefit from your training if you do it that way. Because beauty therapy is such a hands-on profession, you really do need to see procedures being demonstrated, and then have someone watch you do it, so that you can be sure you're doing things correctly.

It really is not something that can be learned by watching a video (or however they teach it). You would be far far better to try and find an evening course at a college or training centre.

I have gone back to college to do beauty i am loving it, I don't think you could learn it from a book as it has already been said you need to see it demostrated then be watched to check you are doing it correctly. I go on a saturday

Beauty Therapy really isn't something that can be mastered via an distance learning course (imo). As rouge said, you need one to one guidance throughout when perfecting these techniques, and home learning will not offer you this.
Looking for an evening course in one subject area, ie waxing or nails, and building up your qualifications bit by bit would enable you to get the best of both worlds (remain in employment and get hands on learning).

op im also in the same position as you. Working full time and there are no suitable places to study beauty nearby. The private ones are just to expensive.

I have enrolled on a online course and im nearly done with the theroy aspects of it. Apparently the course has a two day practical element somewhere in england and that would allow me to gain my insurance.

ive checked with everyone and anyone to confirm if this course stacks up and so far so good.

of course im not so happy with the customer services aspects of the course provider but its not major .

any questions just pm
