Hi All
I am currently ioh the process of looking for a course in beauty therapy level 2. My main aim is to eventually have my own salon after several years of experience. I have seen an ITEC beauty therapy level 2 course at place called Affable Beauty and an NVQ at London College of Beauty Therapy. Can anyone help with advice as to which course is more recognised in salons and ingternationally? Which course is more preffered/ higher standard? Thanks Perks |

Hi hun, ITEC is the internationally recognised cert.
From a business point of view, BTEC is geared more for managers and owners and nvq 2 and 3 for staff, that's not to say it's easier, it's not, so no one jump down my throat please. I asked at the college I'm looking to attend and they told me that nvq is 60 to 70% practical the rest theory and BTEC is the other way around with a lot more given over to the business side of things. The new quals, well so far they seem to be viewed as an entry into the beauty world, so a 14 year old would do the vrqs and after completing it would look to do either a nvq, Itec or Btec. However the vrqs is still quiet new and will no doubt develop more as industry dictates its needs, just as the itec did, hth x |

Hi Susie Thanks for your reply...just to calrify, if an awarding body (such as ITEC) does a course if it is not an NVQ then it is their own VRQ? So an ITEC diploma in beauty has to be either an NVQ or VRQ is that right? Im trying to figure out which is best to do? eirther an NVQ which is the same regardless of the awarding body, OR the ITEC beauty specialist Diploma course..which is a higher level? Thanks Perks |

Hi,
I am ITEC qualified but have taught NVQ levels 2 and 3 in FE colleges...I would say go for ITEC every time....it's much more in depth than NVQ and gives you much more under pinning knowledge. Hope this helps. Sarah x |
