Spots after waxing - is this normal? - 26-11-11, 10:54 AM

I waxed my partners chest for the first time yesterday. The treatment went fine and i made sure he was given and followed the aftercare advice. His chest went really red and was quite raised which i understand to be normal but he has woken up today with lots of little red spots on his chest. Is this normal?? Would appreciate any advice, thanks x

I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you but I would also be very interested if anyone has any thoughts.
I waxed a clients chest a couple of weeks ago which all went well and he followed all aftercare advice. The next day however he appeared to have had a reaction with a red rash coming up on his chest. I haven't had this before and couldn't explain it. He is very fair skinned and I put it down to having very sensitive skin??? He had never had it done before. But I felt terrible and know he won't return :-(

Yes this is quite common especially after male chest waxing..
As part of my aftercare advice I suggest that my clients take anti histamine the day they wax and for a few days after.. it makes a huge difference and the chest will settle. Most of my clients who do chest waxing follow this and it works for a lot of them. If they know what to expect and how to treat/deal with it then its not so bad.
I also provide sachets of tea tree moisturiser and give advice of how to exfoliate and cleanse the skin..

I am relieved that this happens to quite a few men! I was getting worried. I have told him to gently exfoliate using tea tree and have also given him a witch hazel gel. I hope it goes down soon! Thank you for your advice about the antihistamine! Will definitely be advising this from now on

Dont exfoliate until the skin has settled down!!..

With all male waxing I advise clients to wait until the skin has settled before exfoliating and then only 2/3 times a week..

Hope it all turns out okay for him..It does get easier and often the reaction becomes much better as you do more and more waxing..

Great advise with the anti-histamine, i've never thought to mention that before.
I usually recommend savlon.
Thanks for that info Jack x

Your very welcome...
My regular chest waxers that have had a reaction often take it the day before they wax and they get the best results but taking it the same day is fine..
Savlon and nappy rash cream also are great for some post waxing skincare, I strongly recommend a tea tree based moisturiser and skin wash and combined with regular exfoliation and its a good post wax skincare regime I have a lot of clients that follow these guidelines and it works for them.. I also have regular waxing and I practice what I preach!!..

Can I just add, that the anti-histamine tablets really seemed to work for my boyfriend. Jack recommended that to me a while ago and he came up in almost no spots after his next wax.
Definately try that.

Yes, it's very common and it's a real pain.

I'd like to echo Male Waxer's brilliant advice as it really does help.
