brow wax gone wrong! Help! - 25-07-08, 01:38 PM

Hi.

I waxed a client's brows today and it wasn't until we were done that I established she was using cream for acne. ( I blame myself for not doing a thorough colsultation!) I was doing lots of treatments on this girl (16) and her mum so I guess I lost concentration on that part.

Anyway, she was very red after and I am unsure what will happen to her skin in the next few days? When I put the aloe vera cream on afterwards she found this very nippy which I found odd as normally this would calm the skin. I wondered if she was sensitive to Aloe Vera? After around an hour of doing the waxing the skin had calmed down but it looks like she may have a graze on one part! Has anyone had this before and could put my mind at rest as to how the skin will heal and how soon?

To add to the stress of it all, I almost fainted when I saw how red she was. I am not kidding, I felt sick, was very light headed, and could hardly see! I tried to hide this but in the end I had to tell the clients I was taking a "funny turn" and rest for a while. It was very hot today and I had not had much at all for breakfast so that may have caused it also.

Just had to get this off my chest as I feel awful and will be worried for days otherwise!

I do know all about the effects of acne treatments, ie drying on the skin, so this makes me even more mad with myself!

as you have stated you are aware of the effects of acne treatments and waxing. so dont beat yourself up about this. just remember next time to ask if anything has changed since there last appointment i.e. medication and note it on the consultation form.

theres nothing you can do about it now but there is something you can do to prevent it happening again !!!

take care and dont worry these things happen.

just be careful next time !!!

I will of course be very careful. It has almost put me off waxing and I have been doing it for years!

Maybe I am over-reacting but one part did look like it may leave a graze. Does anyone have experience of actually having a graze from waxing and if so how long did it take to heal? I have advised her to use antiseptic cream if need be.

I wouldn't fret too unduly Sharon, it happens, even to the most experienced waxers.

As long as you tell the client that they may have a little graze and suggest some helpful post treatment care and ring her up in a couple of days to see if the area is healing ok. It would only take a couple of days or so to heal if only a little graze.

On the Whole Ball Of Wax DVD, Lori Nestore states.. if you don't graze anyone's eyebrows.. then you are not doing enough waxing .... so if someone with 27 years experience can still have the odd graze.. you are grazing with the 'best of them' ...

Hi

i stupidly waxed over the same area on my own brows twice (instead of just tweezing the ones which wouldn't come out) and grazed the skin. it looked a bit like a cat scratch and was very sore. i put sudocrem on it and it was gone completely in 48 hrs so you could recommend that. Don't be too hard on yourself, it really doesn't sound too bad!

i also had a experience recently where my eyebrow was grazed in fact it was on both of them. it looked a mess and yes it was sore but it did clear up after a few weeks and looks as good as new now.

dont worry about it as jen says even the more experienced waxers do these things do dont worry.

sit back and chill - its done now !!!
