Hey!

Ive recentley started up mobile! Do you have all your equiptment and products etc?? You need to do some advertising to get your name out there if you dont have a client base already. I got a load of priclelists printed up and did a leaflet drop you can advertise in local magazines local papers etc! So you need to find a printer! Do you have a couch and space to carry around and store all your stuff? You need to work out what you want to charge so research what other salons and mobile therapists charge in your area to give you an idea! x

Hi thanks for the quick response, congrats on starting up, hope your enjoying it!

I've got some equipment and a place to store all the stuff. Have got no products as of yet, not sure which skin care range to invest in, I've heard Priadara are good, have rung them and they haven't got back to me! What products do you use?

What about insurance cover, tax and national insurance? Sorry to ask soooooooo many questions! x

Helloooooo! I hope I haven't got the wrong end of the stick but you also need to make sure you're properly trained or you'll find IF you get insurance, you won't be covered if anything goes wrong!

You need to phone some insurance companies and ask them about cover and to be insured you generally have to be a member of a beauty association if you google them they will come up with lots of differant ones! I am looking into a new facial range at the moment so cant help you much with that coz dont know what im going to use yet myself as i am stopping mobile and going into a salon to rent a room instead!

Tax and nationail insurance you need to print off some forms from the inland revenue website to let them know you are self employed and they will sort out u national insurance and as for your tax aslong as you keep note of everything you spend and take i wouldnt worry about that too much untill you are earning a bit of dosh! x

The best advice any of us fellow geeks on here can give to you is do not try and save money by buying wholesale skincare and nail products.

If you want to save money cut down on the product range to 2 or 4 facials not the fill range from the wholesalers.

Buy a selected range of colours maybe 12 instead of buying 100 cheap colours which will chip and do no go for a salon starting out.

Also clients are quite savvy about products, so just think if you saw cheap products in a salon would you want to book.

i have been mobile for 8 years and i love it, i am insured through salon gold they are £44 for the year and this gives you 2 million cover for public liability and i also insure my equipment with them as well for an extra £31 a year, when i first started i did leflrt drops through doors and hand outs in town went round shops and put them in windoews but i have to say my busness was itty bitty till i advertised in yellow pages then it just started coming in all the time, you can pay over 10 mounth and it dosent have to be expensive if you cant afford a paying advert at all the get a free one liner for now till you start building it up then maybe next year you can pay for an advert. i love what i do so go for it and have fun doing it as well. good luck luv.

Hi Gem
Try Vistaprint for all your printing. Business cards, postcards etc. They do lots of offers and can get your business cards free! My price lists I have designed in publisher and print them at home on top quality satin paper and they look totally professional.

Hi Gem,
You will need to register with the inland revenue to let them know your going to be working for yourself, with in three months of starting, whilst your on the phone to them ask about their free work shops..the first one they tell you all what you can claim for , and then the second one tells you how to do your self assestment on line, Ive just done my sa on line and I recommend it!
