I use Sun Labs but am thinking of changing to either Sienna X or Tantrick. I don't think Sun Labs lasts very long, although am happy with every other aspect - colour, smell etc. It can be a minefield though as what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another!

Am new here following a request to join. Have tested all the tans listed, (part of the job), including some not listed - St Tropez, Vita Liberata's Silken Chocolate, Chocolate Sun and many others. They all spray good from a technical point of view, however, having been involved for many years and following some of the trends, i think there is a definate trend towards organic formulas, more natural colours and discreet smells.

I like the non-smell of Silken Chocolate (and i mean non smell.... nothing) and hope this is a trend that's followed by others, but that is a view from an engineer, not a therapist or client. Any product that has a fragrance will accumulate within a tanning room without the right extraction equipment and it isn't long before stale odours show the true nature of the tan fragrance to me. Some of it makes us gag when we are asked to remove other equipment to install our own. The old Auto's from overseas with the water wash down systems, mixing with the tan and having not been used for months, years, accumulating in pockets beneath the booth - Smelly slime is the best way to describe it that catches the back of your throat. Not nice. The lack of support these equipment suppliers offer to salons in such cases is unforgivable in my opinion.

One thing to get used to is that....., i ramble........ Back to the point. I think they are all pretty much the same, smells and some colours asside, however, the biggest thing you should consider is perhaps the support you will get from the supplier / brand. Do they help with localised marketing to help increase your exposure, which ultimately leads to more customers. Do they help promote your salon? On national publications, advertisng to the general public, what do they do with their enquiries - ie: do they point them to your salon, being in the local area of the enquiry? Are they available when you have a problem etc etc etc. You may have a great brand on board, but if you are simply left to it, buying a standard quota of product each month so area reps meet their targets, how will that really improve the succcess of your business? Can you phone your rep knowing he/she will respond the same day? When you open an account, do you get a meaningful starter pack or simply a tokan gesture? Lots to consider.... not just the colour and longevity of the tan.

I have my favourites for sure, but that is a choice i've made through testing, through informed choices based on their belief in their product and the support they want to offer, not 'have' to offer. As an equipment supplier, i remain fairly impartial but am looking forward to the results of the poll.

New brands are being introduced this year which can only confuse you even more. Good luck.

The poll is mulitpe choice, so you can chose more than one if you so wish.

Please tell us what you like about your chosen solution, covering these main points;

I use SiennaX in the salon. I love it. I've probably tried about 4-5 others.
*Guide colour - is it light or dark and what colour does it look on the skin? It really does depend on skin tone. Quite dark on though, washes off lovely. light solution i'd say is sunkissed, middle solution i'd say is sunblushed!

*Smell - is it a pleasant frangrance? It smells lovely when first on, I can honestly say it makes the salon smell lovely and coconutty when i've just used it. Some i've used can smell chemically, like hairspray, and one I tried on a model for practice was that stinky we stopped halfway through! So i'm lucky with SiennaX that it smells nice. After about 5-6 hours it starts to smell like rich tea biscuits though if i'm being super honest!

*Drying time - How quickly can you client get dressed? About 5 minutes. If they have the time I do encourage them to wait a little longer.

*Choice of solutions - Is there one for all skin types? Do you feel there are too many or not enough? Personally i'd like more choice of strengths, but clients trust my judgement and they are happy with the tan I use.

*How much solution do you use per tan? Not sure, never measured it. I'd have to wrk out an average rather that just base it on one tan, as clients all differ in size, height, and requirements, iykwim!

*Developed colour - think about wether the tan comes out with yellow, brown or orange tones. Brown tones. Light brown tones. Red tones sometimes on olive skinned folk. I've never noticed a yellow tone I don't think?

*Staying power - How long does the tan last, does it go patchy when it fades? About 3-4 days. If the client looks after it really well, can last 5 days. Sometimes it can be patchy when not moisturised, or on someone with extremely dry skin.

*Retail Range - does your solution carrya retail range? does this boost business? I struggle to retail. Current climate perhaps, but then I struggle to retail anything in my salon, polishes, afterwax etc all are difficult to sell.

*Value for money I'm conscious of waste, with solution and products. Its one of the most costly salon treatments I do, based purely on cost of product, BUT it is also one of the best for product, if that makes sense.

I hope this will be helpful to all, I will post my reply when i get another 5 mins!!

HTH any potential tanners!!
Happy Tanning!!

xxxxxx

Hi all

I use Australian gold !!

its a light goldy brown colour durin development & washes off a lovely golden colour very natural & looks like a real holiday glow, usually get a good week to 10 days as long as i moisturise everyday!!

per average sized person i use 3/4 of the compartment the tan goes into but never physically measured it !!

I used drops to darken if required

I sell cream that comes with it to moisturise afterwards& also exfoliation wipes!!!

the tan smells lovely fruity a little like oranges but not strong!!

I use the australian gold laser spray tan machine which minimises over spray & is more accurate so dryin time is roughly 5 min!!

There is 1 main colour for all skin types & a darker tan which is more expensive or just use the drops to darken!!

its 150 for a gallon which i get around 70 tans out of i think this is good as iv ued other cheaper tans and had to many come back or problrms with so id rather pay out a bit more for a good quality product the laser machine cost me 2500!!

Thanks

Denise x

Ive just received my Versaspa by MagicTan automated spray tan booth! Got my tan done on Friday and 5 days later its still looking good. Has started to fade a little on my face and hands but it comes off naturally as opposed to blothcy! Love it!

I use Su-do have done for nearly 5 years. I've tried St. Tropez but didn't like the colour and also Fake Bake & felt disappointed with the result. Most of the colour washed off and it didn't last very long
