back pain -
19-11-08, 12:01 PM
I know exactly what you mean as I also do mobile work as well as having a treatment room at home. Carrying a mobile treatment couch gives me really bad back pain. When I get any new clients I immediately ask if they are ok to come to me so I only have a couple of clients that I do mobile now. I would try and encourage all your clients to come to you as bending low down over the clients own bed will probably do more damage to your back than your treatment couch.

I was going to suggest excatly the same thing! why not look in your local DIY shop, B&Q, Homebase - anywhere like that or even online there must be some beauty funiture companys that sell couch trollys! As like weezie said you will cause more back problems leaning down to a bed. On the other hand you could do Indian head massages with the client sitting at their dining table, manicures/ pedicures without your couch! |

Also what sort of couch have you got ? If you have one of the old bulky styles then Im not suprised you have back problems its like lifting a tank When I was mobile I had a lightweight couch that was about 10.5kg and it was light as feather, i could carry it in the bag over my shoulder !! |

seriously....your health is more important than money. stop using your couch immediately.
start telling your clients about your home salon, and bring the opening date forward a month. explain that it is health issues preventing you from doing certain treatments which are on offer at your home salon. write a newsletter, put a few wow! treatments in, and send them out to all of your clients with a list of treatments that you are able to do without couch. |

Thanks guys for all your helpfull advice!
I thought about getting a trolley but a lot of my clients are in flats so i would still have to lug the couch up there and i think this is whats doing my back in. My couch is a really heavy one. I decided to go for a more sturdy one as my tutor said a larger lady broke hers lol I would really like to look into getting a lighter one. What is the lightest couch available, does anyone know? xxx |

Even though your home salon is not totally ready, is there anyway it could be used for now? Or anywhere in your home where you can set your couch up for now and leave it up? Honestly I think if you explain to people they will understand, as long as your not trying to wax them in your garden or something they will be fine! xx
