Facials & Ear Candles - 06-04-09, 10:05 PM

Please do not allow this thread to open an ear candle debate...Pretty please xx

Hi Skin Geeks

I have recieved many requests for the above treatments and am looking to dip my toe in.

Not wanting to waste my cash, how long should a good facial course last & are the courses certificated? What shpuld i be looking for?
I want to steer away from a cheepo!

Ear Candles - basically the same questions as above.

Please excuse my ignorance & hope you are able to help.

ok well if you are looking down the route of getting an internationally recognised certificate in skincare itec do a module called skin and eye treatments and thats 150 hours that need to be completed so you can check there website and see if there is a college near you offering this module then afterwards you can pick a skin care range and the company usually offers training in that which lasts anything from one to five days, to do ear candling i see most places advertise it at just a day course

You should be looking for a course which is accepted by your insurance company, so you need to check with them first. VTCT courses are accepted by most of the insurers - they certainly are with BABTAC.

Arh thank you.....

150 hours? Is it not possible to do a facial course at a local training provider/academy?

I dont mean a 1/2 day waste of time course.

Im asking if there is in skin/facials the equivalent to the nails CND/Ezflow & others. I know of dermalogica and thats about it.....

Is it a similar thing as in you train and gain a certificate then convert to a company and then do product training....

I like some ideas of a good range that offer facial training....Or would i need some kind of skin based cert first?

Sorry if i sound dumb but this is the first time ive dabbled in the skin area...

well the one hundred and fifty hours would cover everything skin care wise in depth so it is not really that long, have a look at the link and see whats covered http://www.itecworld.co.uk/Syllabus/...20Syllabus.pdf and then you could look into further training with the specific brand you choose, im not sure if skin care companies train you without a background allready in skin care but i could be wrong, whatever way you go just make sure its recognised so you wont encounter any problems

You must check with State Borad to see if you need a license to practice in your state which I am sure you do. Otherwise it would be illegal. After your schooling or during go to a Skin care only show. Get samples, info and continuing education classes. From there you can decide on a skin care line. Choosing one that has a represenative or an education center near you is the best way to go. They will support you. Some will charge for classes but some will want to educate you. It is in there best interest to educate you so you will not miss represent them and you will sell more products if you know what you are talking about. Don't go cheap, you would be surprised at what someone is willing to pay to look better. Cheap products will only make you look cheap and your client's will not get very good results.
Lets play pretend. You have a client that uses Oil of Old Lady that she only paid $10.00 for. You explain to her that Ye Ol Drug store bought it for $5.00. The Oil of Old Lady company made it, packaged it and marketed it for $2.50. So now we have a product that cost about $1.75. Ask her; What do you think you get for $1.75? You can not get high quality product's that give high quality results for pennies.

you CAN do a one day facial course, then whoever you choose to be your facial range will do product training with you.

I did a holistic facial course first which was insurable with FHT. As it didn't cover exfoliation and masks I then went on to do another facial course which is insurable with The Guild.

My insurance company accepts both my certificates and I could have easily not done the 2nd course.

I then went on to having product training with academie and now only stock gerards, I offer 5 prescriptive facials, and 3 specialised facials and had training with each.

One day courses are great if you are already in the trade iykwim, you can always top up your experience as and when needed. for example, I haven't covered extractions or steaming, so do not use this, if I felt I wanted to do this in the future I would seek out a course that covers both of those.

I think I would like to go on a specialised skin analysis course in the near future to top up my skills further.

go to the guild website and see where your nearest courses are. Am sure Leicester is well catered for.
