What spray tan barrier cream to use? - 24-06-09, 12:56 PM

I currently use Sienna X barrier cream but was wondering if there are any cheaper products or normal moisturisers that will do the same job?

I don't want it to act as a complete barrier, just something to help stop the tan clinging onto dry patches and cuticles etc.

I use the sienna one too but was thinking really that any moisteriser would do the trick. Petroleum jelly on nails/paml hands would be a very stron barrier but maybe for feet a light coating of regular moisteriser would do the trick.

To be fair though i cant see me running out of the Sienna barrier cream, it lasts for ever!

If you alter your technique there really is no need for using any barrier cream...

Maybe some light moisturiser recommended for when they go off to bed the first night so they don't touch themselves in their sleep and end up with brown palms

I dont use barrier cream. I don't need to. Ive done hundreds of tans and have never had one complaint. For nails I use a uv protector polish. A clear polish would even do the same job

I must admit i was trained to use it for ankles, feet, knees, elbows, palms, inside of wrist/arm and nails.

I only use it for back of ankles and palms/nails. ive no doubt when and if i run out of the cream i wont need it.

I do carry barrier cream and clear nail polish with me but have never used it and have had no complaints or problems when asking for feedback on this issue.

What can I do to my technique to avoid using cream.
I always spray lightly on hands and feet anyway, apply cream to their palms and moisturiser (Sienna X barrier cream, which is not a total block) to their cuticles and nails.

I have a lot of repeat clients so my technique can't be that bad!

Also, I have really really dry knees and when I get sprayed (admittedly by my hubbie so its not that great !) it always clings on and my knees are extra brown.

I always use moisturizer. The solution grabs at any dry patches so i moisturize elbows, knees, back of the ankles, toes and knuckles and any other dry patches a client may have.
I just use a cheap moisturizer and that works fine.

I dont use barrier cream either, I use cuticle oil on nails if they arent polished and wipe it along with the insides of wrists after tanning. I don't tend to have a problem with knees, elbows etc.

All us reps are "friendly" whether they are from Tantrick or Sienna, we really dont make a habit of selling you things that you don't need. Its up to the individual wether to use barrier cream or not, I would never do a tan without barrier cream, but thats just my teqnique and i havn't had a complaint in 6 years.

Hi. I have to admit I always use a barrier cream - and when I have done clients have commented on how they like the care taken when applying a tan - that's not to say that it's better!

As mentioned vaseline is a complete barrier - but..... I used it the other evening very lightly and had a darker % (well summers here and I have to look so brown) and I was pleased with the results. Generally I use an aqueous cream from boots, or baby moisturiser.

I was trained not to use barrier cream and never have used it. Never had a problem with too much tan on the dry areas!!.

Same here. I think it's a preference thing. If you feel confident enough to not use it and get no complaints then whats the point?
