Help with my eyelash extensions - 07-07-09, 07:21 AM

Hi all i am new to salon geek and was hoping i could bend someones ear for a bit of advice!.
I have recently trained in eyelash extensions with Hollywood lashes and i am finding that they are not lasting any longer than a week. I have contacted my trainer via email and i am waiting for a responce. but just wondered if anyone else was having this problem or if anyone could suggest what i could be doing wrong. I really enjoy doing them as they look lovley when they are first done so would really like to get them lasting for longer hope you can help

Hi is this with all the sets u do? or just with one or two? I would go back to my preperation prior to applying the lashes. Plus I find sometimes it can be down to your client, I have clients who can keep them on for upto 4 weeks plus and others who can only last 6 days. Mainley due to the fact there either not used to wearing them. Hope you find a solution x

A week sounds awefully short! Are you using the semi permanent eyelash extensions that are applied singularly or are you using clusters/flares?

When we train the lashes should last up to two months and most clients confirm that this is the case, of course you always get the odd one that still uses oil based mascara or make up remover against your recommendation.

Just make sure you remove all make up and prime the lashes to make sure that a lasting bond can be achieved. When you have applied the extensions make sure that they completely line up with the natural lash and that you dont have any parts that are separated or "twisted" and when you are happy with the result its best to apply a sealant and even sell one to your client to apply morning and night to keep the bond between lash and extension sealed.

Hope this helps but shout if you need any more help?

It could be down to the adhesive that you are using too,
some last better than others,

you need to make sure that all makeup is removed 100% and then prime the lashes to remove all natural oils and prepare the lash for the extensions,
if this is done fully & correctly then the problem lies with the clients not following all after care,
they must keep them dry for the next 24hrs to allow the adhesive time to fully set,
one that clients mostly get wrong is their make up,
they can only wear the special water based mascaras (applied to the tips of the lashes not the base) and can only wear powder make up (mineral powder make up is great)
a lot of clients will wear an eyeliner and think this is ok but eyeliners contain oils so these must be avoided,
we have to explain to clients that a powder can be applied with a thin brush to give the effect of a eyeliner.

If you think it may be your application that is letting your sets down i would be happy to look at some before and after photos of the work that you have done and let you know if i can see any problems,
i am the head trainer for flirties lashes,
just send me a PM if you would like me to take a look for you and i will give you my email address, hth

As already said, it could well be clients using products on their eyes that are not lash extension friendly, lol!
Do you give your clients a "written" aftercare leaflet? I find that this is a great tool as I talk it through with them, point by point. That way, hopefully, they are listening to your after care advice, but also have it in writing.

Also, I know this may sound silly, but are you using a correct cleanser prior to application? A friend of mine was using her normal skincare range eye make up remover, that was non oily, but she had probs with her clients keeping their extensions on. She started using the cleanser from her supplier and had no further problems. Just a thought xx.

Try a new adhesive, the adhesive has a shelf life of 6 months form purchase, and if the lid has been left off for a time it can leave the adhesive too "gloopy" to work with. Nouveau Lashes have recently upgraded their Ultrabond adhesive to Ultrabond Pro5, it has a faster set time and is generally improved. they are giving away free samples to the first 100 to apply on a website called .lashadhesive. and it is Uk based!

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am going to keep at it and hope that i can get it right. I have only done a few sets so think i need to do some more practice before i offer them to anymore clients. i have a practice head but its not quite the same as doing them on a real person. i did a set today the client was pleased but she was last time and they all fell out after a week. her lashes are quite small i used 6, 8, 10 s perhaps her lashes are to weak to hold them?

Here you go:- Ultrabond Pro5 lash adhesive, more than just a lash glue!

I got mine a couple of weeks ago so not sure whether the first 100 would have gone by now, but it's worth a try.

Claire

Since your getting the new nouveau glue for free, you should try new Flirties glue and compare.

I preferred the later.

I would use both adhesives on one volunteer, nouveau on one eye and flirties on the other eye,
and do the same with your other volunteer,
you cant guarantee they will both look after them the same, at least this way you will be able to do a full test to see which works better, hth
