Dermalogica or Decleor? - 11-07-09, 01:54 PM

Hi

I'm thinking of changing the skin products I use and retail at my salon, I'm swaying between Dermalogica or Decleor. I've had a little experience with Dermalogica but am concerned that 3 local salons also use it and I know its widely available on the internet. Whereas no-one locally uses Decleor, but I've no experience of it.

Would I be able to get in touch with both for samples?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks

both have a very high start up cost, decleor even more! I think with decleor they have a policy that you must have 2 or 3 treatment rooms as well.

look at search above for threads that have been discussed many many many times before re: skin care ranges, especially lots on dermologica.

Martin Duffy on here uses Decleor and raves about it. If you need any info about it he's probably the best person to ask.

Decleor didn't have a minimum room policy when I last checked, and didn't when I set up, but they are picky about the image of the salons that they are going into. There are certain advantages in that they limit the number of salons using Decleor in a given area depending upon population etc. Also, unlike other brands, such as Dermalogica, the rep will continue to visit even if you don't sell tonnes of products.

They are costly to start up but I got that money back exceedingly quickly as they are excellent in the marketing department & the products/treatments sell themselves. Ther best bet is to contact the company & they will come out & discuss it all with you.

Talk to both companies, try both products, see if they will provide you with a treatment of each. See which you will feel most comfortable using, promoting, recommending and selling.

I think dermalogica is now available is some debenhams isn't it, or am I wrong? So that's something else to think about, as you don't want to be competing with the internet and big stores.

I think with Decleor your therapists also have to be trained in level 3 to use these products.
I am a total Dermalogica junkie. I absolutely LOVE it. I wouldn't put nothing else on my skin.
But yes it is easy for clients to get hold of on the net BUT I use it at work and sell tons of it. I tell my clients that a lot of it is watered down if you buy it from the net so it's not to be trusted.
I don't think I would be worried about what other salons are using if I owned a salon. I would concentrate on having the BEST customer service and making sure my therapists were highly trained in all products. We also give clients 15% discount if they come back and buy 3 or more products from us.
Dermalogica's product training is free and your therapists will earn £1 for every hour spent there. They can then redeem this against products or training such as hot stone etc.
Sorry to waffle but just thought i'd give you more of an idea of what they are all about

Likewise for Decleor, the training is free (it's at Notting Hill). It's a week for the face & a week for the body (although I think the body can be broken into one or two day chunks). I do believe you have to be level 3 trained, but don't quote me on that!

I have worked with lots of skin care companies, Dermalogica included, but in my not-so-humble(!) opinion Decleor is fantastic for results-driven skincare that is also a pleasure to use, and they are also extremely supportive of ALL their salons & spas, not just the big-selling ones - the rep doesn't stop coming out if you don't reach certain sales figures like some companies. You also get free promotional materials & samples/testers (the amount depending upon how much you sell). They are a forward thinking brand, constantly updating formulas in response to technological advances & in response to the environment (removing those materials that are unsustainable, such as rosewood oil), and everyone there that I ever spoken to has been both passionate about the products & friendly.

Can only echo what Martin has said...i expect your RDM loves you Martin...do you see Clair Wilson,is she still with Decleor?

I think Martin hit the nail on the head...forward thinking is the key word here...they are always pushing the boundaries, with R&D,yet still retain thier heritage in the world of aromatherapy...the niche is aromatherapy, which is sorely overlooked by some skin care companies.

The treatments are divine, the products are aswell, you get an immediate result.I for one had acneic skin and balm ylang ylang and the corresponding aromessence brought it back to balance, and oily skin is one of the most difficult to treat....when you do this for your clients they will become ever so loyal believe me!

So i would say...it is a win,win win situation all round when deciding what is best for you

Yes Clare Wilson is still with Decleor, and oddly enough she's my new RDM! Lisa was my rep before that. They are always so helpful - the other week I was running low on gauze & Clare was kind enough to pop some in the post to me so I had some to tide me over until I'd finished putting my order together. Nothing ever seems to be a problem for them!

Agreed regarding their heritage in aromatherapy - they are one of the original skincare ranges using plant-based skincare & unlike other 'aromatherapy' ranges who have tried to copy them, because they have their own research facilities they are always ahead of the game with results driven formulas.

I'll second that. Decleor is the only thing that's cleared my skin up, it's never looked better than it does now. And believe me, I've tried so many skincare ranges - including Dermalogica. You'd have to pay me a lot of money to make me change my skincare now!
